Q: Do the drawings submitted have to be on the given templates, or can we also submit perspective drawings? I'm presuming the former is mandatory and the latter is highly desirable?
A: We suggest that at least one of the views be on one of the templates with your name and contact information on it. You can augment that with additional views, detailed close ups, or whatever else your heart desires--just as long as they're in the correct file format (.PDF or .JPG).
Q: How big should the files be?
A: There's no hard limit, but try to keep the file sizes under a megabyte. A 500 KB file is as good as a 50 MB file to the judges; designs won't be scrutinized on a pixel-by-pixel basis. If we need larger versions of a file, we'll request it specifically using the contact info you’ve provided.
Q: Does Factory Five have a design language in mind, i.e. for a grille, side vent, etc.?
A: No design language is necessary but your own. This is an all-new project, so it should have a unique look.
Q: Are entrants required to submit drawings for each view (top, side, isometric) with their entries? The isometric view is tricky for those of us without lots of 3D experience.
A: You aren't required to use all of the templates, but multiple views will give the judges a much better idea of your design.
Q: Roughly when during the week is the cutoff for the "weekly winner"?
A: We'll review the week's entries every Friday morning. If your entry comes in on Friday after the entries are under review, we'll consider it for the following week.
Q: Is there a limit to how many entries we can submit?
A: Send in as many entries as you have good ideas; there's no limit. (However, you can only win once.)
Q: When you say mid-engined, do you mean that the engine will be located between the front axle and the driver, or between the driver and the rear axle?
A: We're using the traditional definition: The engine will be located behind the driver but in front of the rear axle.
Q: Can I change the driver position?
A: You can, but we may move it back. It probably won't help your chances at winning, either.
Q: This is open to people worldwide, right?
A: Yep. If you're in Zimbabwe with a pencil and an Internet connection, you have a shot at winning.
