I've pretty much decided that a late-model Corvair convertible is what I want to get to scratch my convertible itch, and if I had fixed the Saturn and had it ready to sell I'd be looking very seriously at this. Messaged the buyer and he clarified that it doesn't have seats at all, not just that they're in bad shape. Don't know enough about them to know whether having the single larger carb and adapter vs. the smaller 1-barrels is better, but it does look interesting.

Carb still looks good after its decade at the bottom of the sea...

And no choke? Doubt that the engine EVER ran with that conversion.

I don't care if that is the smallest 4bbl carb Holley made... It is still too much carb... And I am trying to wrap my brain around 4 intake runners on a 6 cylinder...

It all depends upon the intake manifold, the two, four, or six runners connect to that.

I would suspect that all of the fuel from that four barrel might well begin to de-atomize in those long smooth runners before it ever reached the cylinders though.

Ahhh... That splains it... I did not know that Corvairs used log intake manifolds that were cast into the heads... Thanks

At least it is a vacuum secondary. It will never pull enough vacuum to ever be more than a 2BBL.

Ran that setup on my Corsa back in the day. Ran lousy. No better performance but mileage was terrible. Was useless in cold weather/ rain. Cooling fan under carb/ manifold would cause it to freeze up with ice.

Getting that setup to work is generally a huge pain. As noted by TeamEvil, the de-atomization of the fuel is a big issue. VERY bad setup for cold weather. One "solution" to that situation that seemed to work is putting an oil fed intake heater under the carb. Still going to be cold blooded though. The Holly 390 is the size that is supposed to work best (not sure what that is).

That setup can give better top end then stock (more carb) but most consider it not worth the trouble. The stock carbs take a bit of getting used to, but they are NOT that bad once you know what to look out for (very simple carbs, most of the "issues" people have are linkage related).

As I have noted before, be VERY careful with a repainted Corvair, ESPECIALLY a convertible. I would pretty much assume the car is wildly rusted unless you can absolutely confirm otherwise (which is made harder with the repaint).

Bondo, rust, and the broken back window means it's probably got more rust in the back seat area. For $900 its hard to go wrong, paint it with rustoleum and drive it until it cracks in half.
