I had to Google that one. Neat!

Now I want Steve to use one. In a Porsche 914. Done challenge style.

The stag would work too.

In reply to Dusterbd13:

The Triumph V8 in the Stag sounds really nice and a little different. So do the Tatra V8's I've heard via video clips. Kind of like how a fan makes just a little more nice racket on a Porsche 911 that doesn't exist on a flat-six Subaru.

I bet there are more Rover 3.5 powered Stag's in the UK than the original and fragile 2.5L triumph engine. Common over there, not so much over here?

The original Triumph Stag V8 is a 3.0 (basically 2 x 1.5 Spitfire engines attached) and was only ever installed into Stags, by the time the TR8 came around the 3.5 Rover was being utilized. I have two 3.0 engines on the shelf, but they are not for use on this project.

IIRC the Stag V8 is related to the slant 4 that ended up in the TR7. From the Stag Owner's Club: In essence this engine was developed from two banked 4 cyclinder Dolomite blocks developed for the Saab 99. By this time Harry Webster had been moved to Austin-Morris Division of the conglomerate and Spen King was appointed from Rover to further develop the Stag to launch. Spen’s quest for more bhp and lower end torque resulted in the increase of the V8 from 2.5 litres to 3 litres and the reversion to carburettors away from fuel injection, which would have eventually run into problems with US emission directives anyway.

BTW, a TR6 engine is pretty much a bolt in. Been there, done that.

The shop owner races rotary. I am hoping for a triple in the Stag!

Toyota 1UZ- FE quad cam V8 (I have no idea what that actually is)

Did you get the Dolomite Sprint engine here in the States? I had this engine swapped in my TR7, loved it.

Did you decide to stop the swap on the celica wagon and put that in this instead?

Did we ever get an answer to which engine?

If not I vote EFI 302 and T5. Cheap and reliable, and can make decent power with junkyard parts and old cheap stuff.
