One near me, the Sport model with the 4cyl auto for a reasonable price. Good looking in my opinion. I hear the interior plastics aren’t great. Gets great reviews from my research.

Any input?

MIL had one, a sport model too. I took it on a test drive once. I didn't like the steering feel, I didn't like how the transmission felt and I didn't like how course the engine felt. However it was reliable for her and she only just got rid of it last fall.

I honestly don't know if it was the last gen however. It looked like this

Coworker has one. It's a car. It exists. That's about all I have to say about it.

Also, why do all modern Mitsubishi 4-cylinders sound like they are at the bottom of a coffee can while cranking?

They made them that long? Wow.

My mom had a 90 model while was in highschool in the earky nineties. I had a LOT of fun in that car when she let me borrow it. First car I ever drove triple digits.

Family member has one, and this is an accurate description. Hers was the final year built, and had a surprising amount of one year only parts that were a pain to locate. (I remember helping to replace an axle, but no parts store had one that would fit into the trans?!?! So we used parts from the new axle to "build" the old one, with the correct splined end that goes into the trans.)

Jalopnik nominated the ninth(!)-gen Galant for Meh Car Monday, stating "The ninth-generation Galant looks and feels like the sort of car made for a person who, when shown, say, a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta, says “Woah, woah woah! I’m not in Cirque du Soleil!” The ninth-gen Galant is like a Nissan Altima without all the glam."

I will say that it was quicker than I expected. It handled my test loop pretty well. I just wouldn't call it a nice place to spend time.

My buddies ex gf had one with some ungodly amount of miles on it, like nearing if not over 300k. Knowing her, I would be surprised if it even had regular oil changes. The car was otherwise pretty meh, but I was always amazed that a Mitsubishi could go that far.

Don't know anything about the Galant, but my 2004 lancer Ralliart wagon has been been very reliable for over 9 years. Bought it with 60k miles, now at 135k. It's honestly fun to drive (the Galant won't be), and I'll be autocrossing it in April.

Besides consumables, one starter, one tie rod end, motor mounts, radiator, one cooling fan, and the fan control module twice. The latter is a known defect. Replaced it with one off eBay for $20 the first time, then a factory one. Turned out that the eBay one was still good. Replacement is truly a five minute job.

For reliability, beats everything I've owned, which includes 4 Hondas and 3 panthers.

Normally this is my answer but eh if you want reliable and trouble free it's probably not the easy button. There are however much more exciting choices than a Galant. Like for example, literally anything else.

Kind of shows how far Mitsu fell. I would put the ~1990 car completely on par with the Accord and Camry of the time. NOT true of the car we're talking about here. They had good engines but below average everything else.  I know i've mentioned it over and over here but my dad's Diamante has been.. ahem.. a gem. cheeky But, it was built in Australia and was top of the range other than Monteros (which are also pretty good).  A diamante is the same size (marginally bigger inside) as the last-gen Galant, probably cheaper for same condition because they're older, and just a nicer place to be.  Having said that, you'd have to be a mitsu fan for me to recommend one at this point due to general difficulty finding a nice one at this age.  There are plenty of other cars that are easier to find and just as good for someone who's not being picky.

I always thought the headlights on the Diamonte were super slick on the first gen cars, especially for a car of that time.

The Galant is very meh.  Appliance at its greatest.  I would probably spend comparable money on a Honda, Toyota, Ford, or Chevy just because they are more common, more knowledge, and better parts availability.

Parts availability is a definite issue for my 04 Ralliart wagon. Only imported into the USA for one year.

They didn't bring the VR4 version of that car, OR THE VR4 WAGON, to the US, so that Galant is dead to me.

That was one of those cars that you knew the makers of Gran Turismo had some personal bias against because they made it nearly impossible to make it go around a track. They did the same thing to the low-end American cars too. LOL

They did offer the 3.8 MiEVEC? engine in them for a few years which were pretty quick, but the last few years they only offered them with the 2.4/auto (did they ever even offer a stick in this gen?)

Mitsus are pretty reliable in general, but replacement parts can be hit or miss and they can get pricey(gen OEM).

They only thing they got going for them is they're dirt cheap I guess.
