So I am thinking about using the Lincoln LS's getrag (that's the manual for the uninformed) in a project that I am putting together. Anyone used this tranny in anything other than the intended method?

Didn't know it was a Getrag, any idea on the strength?

the Getrag 221 is rated for 245 NM of torque.. or 181 lb/feet

Yeah its not real strong but it is cheaper than my other options... It would be going in a car much lighter than an LS with a motor that is not going to be much more powerful than a duratec 3.0L.

I was pretty disappointed to hear that the cyclone engines don't have the some bellhousing as the mondeo line.

it's funny.. in finding that info.. I found a LOT of people knocking the Getrag transmissions in general. The one in my Ti is a Getrag 250, which has not given me one ounce of trouble and still shifts smootly.
Surprisingly, this transmission is stronger than the one Ford used in the heavier and more powerful LS

Yeah, my other option is a t5 with a custom bell housing that is about 800 by itself. I can get the getrag, flywheel, clutch, and front half of the driveshaft for that much.
