I've located an 01 Sentra SE 5-speed that has been parked since December. One of the front coil springs broke and punctured the tire. He's planning to donate the car since it has 215k miles and he's already bought a replacement. The car has some rust as well - not sure how bad.

Is this a good candidate for a fix & flip? I'd put some junk yard struts and springs on it, and a used tire to replace the damaged one. The car is not worth much to the owner and I expect a few hundred would buy it.

Is this worth my time? Thanks!

Yup, sure is if it runs well! The SE has the SR20 in it, the last year before the Spec-V came out with the 2.5 in it. If it's easily fixed for not much I would snatch it up for sure! Heck, I'd buy one of those now if I could find a nice one cheap!

Thanks! A bit of googling last night taught me that some of them come with a "Performance Package" that included a LSD. I'll have to investigate and see if that's true on this one.

Sentra? No, you don't don't want one of those. They have no performance potential at all.

Or do they?

Well my 97 Sentra SE-R came with an LSD, but that did not mean it worked after 110K. I am told these tend to wear out. However, love that motor and the B15s are supposed to have better transmissions than the previous versions.

The B15 SE w/ PP is a great car with a great engine...The performance package is easily identified by the 16" 6-spoke wheels, rear wing, and side skirts. When paired with a 5-speed, it would also have come with a viscous limited slip that may or may not do much anymore. The replacement suspension should come from another performance package car, or at least all of them from a non-pp car, as I believe this included slightly stiffer springs and dampers as well. I doubt you'd want to put a mismatched set on the car. The stock 195/55 tire size is extremely uncommon, and is best replaced by slightly taller and very common 205/55 or slightly shorter 205/50 sized tires.

Confirmed this car has the performance package. Looks like I better jump on it quick!

Its hard to find an SR20 powered car that GRM wouldn't recommend. Some are better than others but they're all pretty good for the money.

My Spec V has a Torsen diff that never wears out. Did the '01's have a Torsen or a viscous diff?

rust and broken springs? sounds like a rally car candidate.
