I've been contacted by a company in Seattle that might be interested in hiring me (early stages so far, but it's not the first time they got in touch) so I figured I'll collect some info. One of the things that's really bugging me out here is that if I want to take part in more than the four SCCA track events run annually out here, I have to go to either Thunderhill, Sonoma or Laguna Seca and that's a minimum 3-4h trip. So if I end up having to move for work, I'd prefer to be somewhere with more motorsports opportunities[1].

We have a halfway decent idea what life in general is up there (my wife lived in that area for over a decade, but that was some 15 years ago), but no idea re motorsports, tracks, etc etc.

[1] Yeah, I know, the other obvious place for me to go is Silly Valley. I'm thinking about it.

Pacific Raceways (aka S.I.R.) is busy and seems to be getting busier, and there's a new track in Shelton, a bit of a drive, but from the incar vids I've seen, looks very amusing indeed.

The Ridge (the track in Shelton) looks purty...

There's also Portland International Raceway, back to being 4 hours away, but just in case having that variety helps. There's also Oregon Raceway Park, a similar distance from Seattle...

And there's Mission Raceway in Vancouver, B.C.

Shamefully, PIR is the only one of these I've actually been to...

There's also Spokane Raceway

Look up ICSCC, CSCC, Team Continental as well as the local SCCA chapter.

There's SOLO and Pro-Solo plus some hillclimbs mg in the area.

Of course ChumpCar/LeMons and now Rat Race for cheap endurance racing.

Or to make it easier, go to http://where2race.com and look at the events for the tracks in the area.

Hope to run into you at one of the events in the area!

LOTS of opportunities in that area. As mentioned, the old SIR (now Pacific Raceways) is one of the banner tracks, lots of SCCA activity. The Ridge just opened in Shelton. PIR is only a 3 hour drive from downtown Seattle and they host the Rose Cup every year. NASA NW is starting their first season up here, at those 3 tracks, IIRC. There's also ORP further into Oregon, and Packwood, WA hosts a National Tour and a ProSolo every year (plus countless local/regional autocrosses).

Oh, and if rally is your thing, this is the place to be. Olympus, Oregon Trail, and Mt. Hood are all Rally America stage rally events...

I think I could get into rallying...

Thanks for the info, that looks better than I thought it did.

Do you rain tires? Seriously I have in the PNW most of my life. I dream of the day when I can live somewhere I can drive with the top down for more than two months out of the year.

Bellinghamster checking in (North of Seattle, almost Canada)
The constant rain is part of the fun of living here.
(and they said he was crazy for buying a convertible)

Anyone with first (or second, hell, third works) hand experience with the road course at Mission? Hitting the border early enough could mean a shorter jaunt than anything down south for me, certainly shorter than Oregon.
