Looks good, but I think they should've done something different with the taillights.
They were trying to make them look like the Ford GT40 taillights by using just two round lights, but accidentally made the car look like a modern Ferrari from the rear - with two ringed lights that project out from the rear of the car. Even a different arrangement of lights within that housing could help.
Kinda raining on the parade of the Mid-Engine Corvette dreamers when it's Ford that not only brought back the GT but may do it again.
I'm so glad this is out now. Working in the studio and funding show cars I've been itching for people to see this for a year now. BTW pics don't do it justice.
We all know that GM will undoubtedly produce promos of the CTS-V with taunts like "640hp - 4 seats" and what not, poking fun at the upcoming GT's emasculated V6.
To which Ford will retort; "0-60 in 3.5 seconds, better MPG than your family sedan."
I agree completely about the tail lights. If I we had were a rear 3/4 image, no one would guess that its a FoMoCo product.
So, I guess Ford's plan is a batch of top shelf supercars at mid shelf price (relatively speaking), every decade?
I think the previous car looked a lot nicer. The activity going on at the rear of the door is hard for me to like.
I'm not the target audience for this anyway so I guess it does't matter.
Fantastic! Seems that they did a good job keeping the lid on this, I don't recall hearing any new GT rumors.
I'm kinda disappointed it only will come with a flappy paddle gearbox.
In reply to Adrian_Thompson:
Good on you for keeping it under wraps. A big reveal without years of rumors preceding it is more fun.

Actually if you look around there have been plenty of rumors.

Why would it come with anything else in this day and age? It would be laughed off the face of the earth if it came with a regular stick.
Serious question I dont' know the answer too. What's the highest performance car that still comes with a regular three pedal box? R8? Aston Vantage? base 911? Porsche Turbo's and GT3's are now flappy paddle. So is anything else with real performance credentials.
IMHO, EcoBoost has been a Marketing buzzword that has not actually resulted in better MPG. OK, the F-150 has a turbo V6, but when used to tow/haul, it returns V8 mpg. The SHO has a turbo V6, but it sucks gas like a pig. I doubt that the GT will be any different. I mean, the Corvette can do close to 30mpg under the right conditions, so there is no need to downsize the motor really. Not that I care of course, it's still 600hp and awesome and if I had the cash I wouldn't care if it was a V4 quad turbo.
Comments on the rear lights and why?
Does this answer it? Design language Lineage.
Original GT40
2005 GT
New GT
I knew they were trying to keep "lineage," but there's no denying that they accidentally copied Ferrari's current taillight style. I think some lights more like the 2005 GT would keep a similar look without making it look like a Ferrari (and I'm not a big fan of Ferrari's taillights...on anything but a supercar, they'd be called ricey).
Edit: For comparison:

Gallardo LP 570-4 Squadra Corse, Vantage GT, Caterham 7 620R, Ariel Atom 3S, Noble M600, Dodge Viper. There are still performance cars out there with a proper gearbox.
What about the massive windtunnels that run inboard of the rear wheels? Yeah,I get that the tailights look a little Italian, but why isn't anyone talking about the aerodynamics that appear to be pretty damn special? Flying buttress C pillars? a rear end with serious F1 influence? Is that as functional as it looks?
And, BTW, lovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelovelove...etc
EDIT: Adrian beat me to it...

I wasn't denying the exist, it was a question I didn't know the answer too. On that list only the Gallardo is in the same class of vehicle as the GT, the Aston could be argued as a distant second. No of the others are even close to really comparable, not that they are bad vehicles, I'd love to have the Aston, the Nobel or the Caterham, but they are not the same, even through I grant you they are very high performance cars.

I am too.....
There is some GT-90 concept car in that as well.
So, Adrian, do those air tunnels actually provide downforce? That might upset the standing mile guys(probably the very few who actually use their ford gt's)

Why isn't the Noble in the same class? Mid-engine, high power supercar. To be honest, out of all those if I was very wealthy the Caterham 7 620R would be the car I'd own.
I still like the First Gen. Ford GT better. I like the GT40 best but their are beyond what I could ever hope to afford unless it was a reproduction version. Having driven the Ford GT back in 2004 I like the "old school" styling over the newest version and I like V8's over any turbo powered one.
If I could afford one of the first gen GT's I would swap in one of those Shelby "flat crank" V8's over the supercharged 5.4.
