For those of you with an appreciation for drag racing, this is sad news.
RIP Grumpy. I saw him race against Dyno Don in 75 or 76 at Keystone in PA. I was still in high school.
i got to meet him a few times back in the late 70s at new england dragway...chompin on his cigars and tuning for power.... awesome guy....
Calvin and I were going to see Bill on Saturday at a museum opening that he was to be an honorary guest. What a shock to find out. One of my HS friends worked for the Grump. Bill's demeanor was not just a story. My friends street car ran 10s in the early 80's. What an awesome opportunity to learn second-hand information. My junk picked up 2 seconds in one summer. This area is surrounded with people and businesses associated with Grumpy. Quay, Stahl, S&W, Cecil, Maple, Rte 30, Old Reliable....the history books are filled with people, places and businesses all around here that we get to hear the first hand stories of their Jenkins connection or experiences. What a bummer.

I didn't see this post earlier and also posted a link to Jenkin's passing. Even though I'm not a drag racer, I can appreciate genius in 1/4 mile racing. He was really something!
Happily, Jere Stahl is still racing. He attended our Watkins Glen event with his P1800 last Fall. I took the photo below at that event.
