I just want to thank the GRM powers that be for throwing that bracket article into the new issue. I often feel like I'm too broke to be a real GRMer, and articles like the Ultimate Track Car usually reinforce that. It was a nice balance to have that little fabrication article tucked in the back of the magazine.

The story was everything I love:
a) fabrication
b) a project built with budget tools instead of complex specialty equipment
c) simple, but good looking
d) includes a detailed step by step howto
e) something that will sell equipment

I am definitely going to need a tap and die set. Thank you for the reminder.

I appreciate this kind of article when they appear too.

My only quibble is the caption for picture #7. Clearly, the vise jaws are covered in something to protect the work piece. That was never mentioned. I expect that this is copper sheeting cut and bent over the jaws, but it would have been nice to know if that's correct, and what thickness of metal is appropriate for this.

Is there a link to it so that I can send just that article to a friend who has buggered up so many brackets as to now call them the B word?

It's in the issue that just landed in subscriber mailboxes. Get your friend to sign up for a free issue, and he'll get a copy. Then maybe he'll also buy a subscription...

You'll need to log in to post.
