I'm looking for a 40-48' drop-deck van, like this:
Often times they're called Furniture vans for obvious reasons.
I'm having trouble finding a good source for them. Ebay sucks. Any ideas for good used semi trailers?

Check with companies that lease them. I rented one and bought it from the company after I decided I'd need it long enough to be cheaper to buy.
Good link. Had no idea that trader had that.
I'm preparing for the big move-out from the wife
But then, I am fulfilling a dream.... turning one of those trailers into an RV/home.

Oooh! Now you DEFINITELY need to come to the challenge. (Party in Curtis's trailer!!!!)
If you want to chill out in small-town Florida for a week or 10, you can park that in my yard and we'll have us a good old redneck party, sans the rednecks.
I know of some good free camping in the National Forest in Northern Wisconsin. The logging trucks drive by them so you should be able to make it with no problems. I would wait until summer though!

Later today I might have some sketches.
I started and got this far... and then I accidentally closed without saving. But I have this much anyway

Unfortunately, no garage for karate.
Overall, a cool idea!
Here is a similar design, sort of.

I'm thinking more like a $4000 trailer and $2000 worth of IKEA fillings. Add in $1000 worth of plumbing and wiring, and I have myself a fully functional home.
(women optional... but they'll line up at the door.)

Your near exact story came up on my Yahoo home page earlier today. $11,000
Reading the story, I did wonder if a proper travel trailer could be bought on the secondary market for cheaper than $11k.

I do not believe, for a single instant, that Florida isn't replete with rednecks.

THIS IS THE EXACT STORY that inspired me originally. I grew up RVing my entire life.
This trailer is a HUGE inspiration. It is mobile, but if you look deeper its not roadworthy. If she needs to move it, she could with a ton of prep. I want more of a hitch-and-go trailer. I want to know that I have something that is equally OK sitting still for 10 years or moving once every month.
Proper travel trailers can be purchased for cheap, but they are made for the common RVer. They use their RV once a year for a few weeks. Modern RVs are cardboard and luan with some super glue and duct tape. I used to be a full-time RVer for several years and they wear out VERY quickly with consistent use.
My thought is, start with a sturdy box, use real appliances and cabinets, and it will be a perfect mix of full-time RVing.
