OMG, who cares what they look like? I drove one last night and remembered why in hell I loved cars in the first place.

I didn't say they weren't lovely to drive! I just don't find them pretty. For the record, I think the 928 is the prettiest street Porsche ever made. I also love the looks of the 914, 924, 944, and the Boxster. All the 911's just leave me cold (in the looks department).

I've never driven a sports car. Muscle cars... Yes. Muscle trucks, yes but nothing that could out handle a Jag or out run a new Camaro. I'm not even going to try to count a stock Miata or Celica.

I lost a good amout of respect for my mother the other weekend.

She was down in the shop (basement of her house) helping me bleed the brakes on my Miata and we got to talking about cars that she had had over time.

Turns out in the late 70's she was shopping for a car at a dealer and got down to choosing between these two cars. One was a Vega, the other was a Dodge, she couldn't remember what it was, just that it looked weird and had a big wing on the back...

Knowing that she doesn't know much about cars, I start pressing for details on this car. Go up to my mustang, which is being stored there, and have her hold up her hands and describe the wing better. About as high as the roof of the car, it was huge. I then have her describe the front of it...

I think we all know where this is headed...

Yup, my mom was picking between a Vega and a Daytona, and chose the Vega...

Pulled up a picture to confirm it, and then told her what the Daytona is worth today. Took a lot to not hit her upside the head and say "DUMBASS!!"

Ah, but shes my mother. I suppose I can forgive her.

Maybe.

Dude, your mom was helping you bleed brakes?

I think she should get lots of respect!

P.S. never say anything bad about your mother. She can kill you and make another one just like you! Well, maybe not now, but you get what I am saying.

I needed someone to pump the pedal as I didn't have time for a gravity bleed. She used to help my dad with it on his Sprite about 35 years ago.

I said it in mostly a joking manner, but seriously! A winged Mopar?

I applied for a new job and there's a very strong possibility I'll get it. A coworker (in a different province) is thinking of retiring soon and offered to pull the pin when (if - one never counts their chickens) I do. Like within the week or even the same day.

This will leave my current dept/company in a SERIOUS bind.

This is not purely a "berkeley you" move. There's more going on both personally and professionally. That being said, there is definitely some "berkeley you" involved.

Thanks. Sometimes I like to make the last letter of each word spell out a swear. The first is too obvious.

OK, I'll admit it. I have already searched the local craigslist ads for a Grand National thanks to a certain thread on GRM. Thanks!

Back in the early 1980's Kmart carried appliances. I sold a guy a floor model refrigerator and 2 days later he called back screaming as he wanted it delivered that day - no exception.

The store manager had me rent a box truck (I was 20 and in college) and my coworker/buddy and I attempted to lift it up 3 feet and then dropped it on its face. The door opened, bent the chrome hinge, and scratched it up. We take the door hinges off, run them to a mechanic friend in automotive and have him try to straighten them out. Then it all goes back together with a lot of scratches. The door really didnt swing correctly.

We deliver it to a high priced house in Hinsdale, Illinois and tell the guy that it moved a little in the truck and got scratched. We told him we would have the brand service company stop out with touch up paint.

Never heard a word after that day.......(whew, now I feel better)

That's a surprising amount of restraint. My first compact car taught me two things, stick and how to simultaneously execute a panic stop without abs, flip the offender off, and lay on the horn.

I actually kind of like the new Focus I rented to get to my new job this week. Yeah, it's a 4-door with a slushbox and garbage tires, but it's got a nice little balance and great steering. The brakes seem pretty powerful (even though IMO the pedal travel is too short to modulate them properly) as well. Yeah, it's a little difficult to see out of the thing to the sides & back..but the back's no worse than the Corrado, and the side mirrors are big enough to make the blind spots not so blind when set correctly.

I had actually reserved a Chevy Spark (GRM FM4 guys, you may now LOL at my real life attempt to get a leaderboard car), but the local lot didn't have one and upgraded me to the Focus for free. I'm tempted to ask what engine is in the damn thing, since it feels like it would pull pretty well if I could wind it out a lil' bit.

My confession: I withdrew an application from an internship that I would have really liked, because someone in my department quit. As the department manager, should I have left, the department would have been in really bad shape. I regretted my decision almost immediately. Learn from my mistake; take the other job.
