The guy works in a sheet metal shop. He brings home anything large that goes onto the scrap pile, and gives it to me. He just dropped these off:
One of the larger ones is 26 ga, the other is 22 ga!! This isn't the first time he's done this, either. I built my wheel wells with metal from him:
He's given me enough metal that I could probably do another entire car after this one is finished. If I found an old nissan pickup to cannibalize, I could probably make something like one of the 1930s datsun midget racers.

(Funnily enough, if you were by me I could drop off literal truck loads of that kind of scrap to you. We go up to 1/4" and down to 30GA. )

I don't suppose you happened to sell steel tubing and aluminum sheet too do you?

Yes and yes, though neither of which is any good for automotive shenanigans.
