Feeds allow web sites to deliver fresh content directly to you. You can get all the latest headlines and news from many sources all in one place, as soon as its published, without having to visit the websites you have taken the feed from. Feeds are sometimes called RSS or Atom feeds. Even podcasts are a type of feed.
The first thing you need is something that can read the feeds. If you use a modern browser such as Firefox, Safari Opera or IE7, they'll do it for you, and all you have to do is click on the Feed link or the feed indicator in your address bar.
You can also use a dedicated feed reader. Browser-based feed readers such as Google Reader let you catch up with your RSS feed subscriptions from any computer, but there are also many downloadable feed reader applications. To use a dedicated feed reader, you'll usually have to copy the feed's address to your reader. If the page looks like a bunch of gibberish, don't worry. The program should know what to do with it.
You'll see feeds on many different sites, and many sites offer more than one feed. Look around, and you'll find all kinds of information: headlines, weather, sports scores and much, much more.

If you run a club website, you can easily add an events calendar to your site using the Grassroots Motorsports events feed for your club. Imagine, putting your club events in one time, with a simple form, then having them appear on this site, your site, and maybe other sites, too! This can be as simple as using a service such as Feed2Js, where you give it the address for your club's events feed, and it gives you a couple of lines of code to put in the page where you want the events to appear. If you have a programmer handy, code to read feeds is readily available in any programming language your site uses.
