Is 4000 a lot? Well, it depends. If you only have 12 days to auction off 4000 cars–then yeah, that’s a lot.
Such is the case for Mecum’s 2023 Kissimmee auction, which started on January 4 and runs until January 15 at the Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida.
We took the opportunity to peruse the lots to see what sort of rad cars we could find. Perhaps not surprisingly, we weren’t disappointed.
Here are just a handful of our favorites (so far):
1993 BMW M5: Looked way clean in person, but unsold at $26,000.
1988 Bentley Eight Sedan: Who wants to win Radwood? Sold at $28,600.
1995 Ford Taurus SHO: Only 8000 miles but fitted with the automatic.
1992 Ferrari F40: What will this U.S.-spec, 10,994-mile example bring? Do we hear $3.5 million? A full 4.0 million?
1988 BMW M5: Remember when these were like $5000 cars? We do. Mecum lists an estimate of $100,000 to $120,000.
1993 Toyota Supra Turbo: Looked stock and very clean. Do we care if it’s an automatic?
1987 Porsche 930 Turbo Slantnose Cabriolet: Someone checked off all the boxes here and said to be totally legit with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
1996 Nissan Skyline GT-R LM Limited: One of 188 Skylines built to commemorate Nissan’s return to GT1 racing at Le Mans.
1978 Ford Mustang II King Cobra: A one-year Mustang package fitted with the optional T-tops.
1999 Ferrari F355 Spider: Just 9700 miles from new. Is this an easier way to get into a fairly modern Ferrari?
1984 Lola T800 Cosworth: Radwood-approved? Driven by Mario to capture the 1984 Indy championship.
1982 Ferrari 308 GTSi: Not red, not silver, not even yellow but blue over tan.

The blue GT-R did glow. And it was just sitting there.

I say this completely unironically and sincerely: That Mustang II is a handsome, well-proportioned car.

Also, that particular King Cobra is missing its bottom cladding.

The most expensive Mustang option since the Boss 429, the King Cobra package cost $1,277 and included front and rear spoilers, wheel arch spats, an imitation hood scoop, spoked alloy wheels and special graphics and striping. A 5.0L V-8, power steering and power front disc brakes, 2.91:1 conventional rear axle and heavy-duty suspension were standard equipment. One of 4,971 produced, this example is equipped with the very rare T-top option. It has received a single repaint in the original Polar White, during which all new T-top seals and weather stripping was applied along with new King Cobra graphics produced by long-time restoration graphics suppliers Phoenix Graphics. It should be noted that the current owner chose not to apply the lower cladding and pinstriping, but the Phoenix pinstriping kit will be included.

Good question, although Mecum says 4200 cars in Kissimmee and plans to up that number next year.
