HOLLY HILL, FLA. — A media giant in the racing world is partnering with one of the country’s most recognized name in renegade motorsport for 2012. Grassroots Motorsports, one of the top magazines in the country focused on road racing, has partnered with Brock Yates’ One Lap of America to provide added media exposure for both the event and its competitors through its print magazine and website.
The One Lap of America has long provided a unique racing experience, requiring street-legal cars to not only compete on multiple tracks, but drive on the streets between them for thousands of miles on only one set of tires. It is the spiritual successor to the infamous Cannonball Run, an illegal race on public roads from coast to coast.
The fastest street-legal competitor at the Ultimate Track Car Challenge, an event hosted by Grassroots Motorsports, will earn free entry into the One Lap, which could bring some variety to their field. The UTCC is an annual no-restrictions time trial competition similar to each track event in the One Lap series.
This partnership is a boon for everyone involved. Grassroots Motorsports will photograph at least two cars competing in One Lap of America, to feature them in full feature stories in print. These features in addition to regular coverage and promotion of the event will increase interest and participation in the series. Racers in the series will have more leverage to earn sponsors thanks to increased media coverage.
The 2012 One Lap of America begins at Tire Rack’s testing grounds in South Bend, Indiana on May 5, and return there for a final test seven days later. During that week, drivers will race at tracks like the Autobahn Country Club in Illinois; the High Plains Raceway in Colorado; the road course and drag strip in Brainerd, Minnesota; and two days at the world-famous Road America in Wisconsin.
In its third decade of publication, Grassroots Motorsports is the premier magazine dedicated to road racing, autocross, road rallies, stage rallies, and rallycross. Run by real car enthusiasts for real car enthusiasts, Grassroots Motorsports covers everything from Miatas to Subarus and Corvettes, including technical articles, product reiews, and event coverage.
