This car is actually cool now. Neat idea!
Perego, a performance artist from the Daytona Beach area, took on the task of theming our Lincoln Mark VII.
He didn't do it all himself, though; Perego got the crowd in on the action.
Every artist signs his work. Perego modeled this car's style after Diego Rivera's series of Detroit Industry murals.
After it was done—and looked positively righteous—our intern Matt took the car for a cruise of the infield. Race fans flocked to it. Some went for rides.
Perego made our Lincoln a mural of sorts at the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year.
Perego’s eyes lit up when the brainstorm landed us on Diego Rivera’s Detroit murals. True to that excitement, he made our Lincoln a mural of sorts at the Rolex 24 at Daytona this year. We taped off the window-shaped holes and let him put his vision to work.
The night before the painting, he laid down some foundation sketches. When it came time, he started the performance and called on spectators at our GRM tent in the infield of Daytona International Speedway to get involved. In no time, our flat-black wad of anonymous American iron became a tribute to the successes and failures of Detroit. We’re now proud owners of a Detroit Motor Works (DMW) art car.
If you missed it this year, keep watch on our website for tickets to the 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona. We always have plenty of hospitality and fun events at the GRM tent, plus exclusive extras for buyers of our limited GRM Experience tickets. Even if you can’t get Experience tickets, it’s always a good idea to come by the tent anyway. We always have something exciting going on that everyone can enjoy.
