We spent the weekend at Gridlife South, a track day, drift event, car show, and concert all stuffed into Road Atlanta’s huge infield. And it was a blast. We managed to find something for every automotive taste, from 400-horsepower hot hatches to VIP sedans to the country’s top drift talent. Plus, the crowd was awesome: The entire event had a positive atmosphere that we haven’t seen anywhere else. After all, who could dislike full-course drifting at over 100 mph (a track first). Waka Flocka Flame, the weekend’s headlining talent, even joined in on the fun: We spotted him rapping in the paddock while Chris Forsberg did big, smoky donuts around him. Gridlife: Sensory overload for the automotive enthusiast.
Not much to it–lawn mower engine, trike, cutting board wheels that had absolutely no grip at all.
It looked like fun!
I'll admit it. I had to google Waka Flocka Flame to find out if that was a group, a person, or a burning muppet.
I'll say this: I don't listen to rap. I'm so white, the closest thing to a Waka Flocka concert I'd ever been to was that time Nicole and I saw Jason Mraz on Valentine's day.
IT WAS AWESOME. He put on one of the best shows I've ever seen, and everybody in the audience was totally into it after a few songs. Even a few crusty SCCA guys (who will remain nameless) were totally into him after a few songs. I'd absolutely buy a ticket next time he's in town.
