Someone should buy this and take the 1984 4 door Rabbit I have near Asheville that would be a good parts donor to bring this back to life. Just a thought.
There are some in my garage but it's a bit more rough now.

The description is way out of date, it hasn't run a in a few years, but it's all there.
Anybody close to this car and can put eyes on it? If rust is not severe this could be an interesting project as I have a donor.
In reply to hobiercr: I work about 30min from the area the car is in. I've contacted the guy to try and take a peek today or tomorrow. Any specific areas that you want to have checked out?
In reply to LopRacer: I hope that you can get it running soon. How bad is the rust on it? And u said that it wont start after replacing a head gasket?

Hey. He just got back to me, but our times to meet up are not syncing right now. I'm gonna try and work something out, but I'll let you know if I cant. I also posted the link for this post in my reply email to show him that this isnt a scam or something.

I think it's actually an ignition problem. When it quit running I was still in school for auto tech and I thought (wrongly) that it had a head gasket failure and lost compression. I was ill informed to say the least. I did the head gasket and it still wouldn't start. I lost interest or more accurately ran out of money and patience and let it sit. I got busy with other projects and it sat. It's got rust now and it's just sat. The floors are still salvageable but there are holes now. It makes me sad and I don't have the heart to scrap it.

That sux. I'm sorry. I hope that you get some peace around this soon. What about the fuse panel? Did u check for corrosion, breaks, etc??

1.8t maybe...
mrwillie took a bunch of photos and shared with me today. Here are my thoughts:
Overall the body is pretty good. Some surface rust in front of one rear wheel well but it doesn't look too deep. Window surrounds look good and although there is water in spare tire well the rear floor looks ok. Front floors look ok and have had some sound deadening removed. The biggest issue is the front of the car where it has obviously hit something. The valence and center grill section will need to be replaced as well as the headlight surrounds. The hood looks salvageable and a front bumper will have to be sourced.
The interior is mostly there. Missing headliner, gauge cluster and while the passenger seat looks ok the drivers seat center panel would need replacing. Door cards look presentable and center console with VDO gauges are present. Not sure ut dash looks crack free.
No drivetrain (engine or tranny). mrwillie said the wiring harness had been cut when the engine was removed and the fuse box was missing all fuses so be prepared to do a full harness swap. Original wheels look like they can be cleaned up fairly easily. All glass looks good.
The car is at the CL ad posters parents' house and they want it gone. Car has been there for some time and I think a serious lowball offer with a trailer or tow dolly to grab the car "right then" would give some leverage. The title is available but is not in the ad posters name. It is in his "partner in the car project which never materialized's" name. If you want the car I would make sure that is in hand before you go to collect.
Would this be a good restoration candidate? Maybe with a lot of work. It would make a better track rat engine / engine swap platform as you could get this portion of the build cheaply.
