OK, I have an effectively brand new turbo that’s sat on my shelf for over 20 years. It came off a 1990 spec European Ford Granada (Scorpio over here) turbo diesel with only a couple of hundred miles on it before being dismantled. The engine in the TD’s was actually a Peugeot XD2 unit. The turbo is a Garrett T3 series, it’s actually part # TD0405F, it’s a T3 40 trim with a 0.42 A/R. I wrote away to Garrett and they sent me the actual compressor map (see below). The engine was a 2.3 or 2.5 (I’m not 100% on that) that made around 95hp and 150lb/ft of torque stock. The turbo has the capacity for over 200hp, it’s got an internal waste gate.
From the pictures you can see the 20 year old tape that has protected every opening, I’ve pulled it off to take a couple of pics, and as you can see from the inlet, it really looks brand new.
So what the heck is it worth? Should I sell it or keep it to potentially bolt to the side of a M20B27? If I sell it how much to ask. I’m placing in the $20xx section as if I sell, this will become and add. New Garrett turbo’s, not Chinese knock off’s go for $500-1,500+. People are asking $150 – 500+ for used stuff. This is old tech, but as close to brand new as it’s possible to get, is $250 about right? Too high or too low?
$200-$250 sounds about fair, but don't expect to move it real quick, as it's kindof weird sizing for many common applications.
Exactly what I was thinking.
OK thanks for the input.
Where should I advertize it, here? e-bay (never sold, only bought there, I have trepidation?) where?
So. For sale, turbo as above $250 OBO will ship (buy pays shipping with insurance). Location SE Michigan.
Go to the vortex? plenty of performance diesel cars there. Probably not suited well for diesel trucks.
big turbine + teensy compressor = not sure who to market that thing to
Added to xceedspped localy, will try Vortex later.

Scrap metal. Or garage art.
If it's a VF12 you might be able to sell it as a basis of a hybrid to the Probe/MX6/turbo Protege guys.
I am in the market for a turbo of a small sort. However, I don't know how the hell to size one. Suggestions? We will go with it needs to have spin up (<4k) somewhat quickly on a 1L motor and would prefer it to be completely dead at 9K rpm
In reply to Woody:
Look on legacygt.com, they actually have value.
Folks use them as cores for an upgrade. I think you get $100 for a core, so someone will buy it for 50 bux or so to send in as a core.
You could also list it on TheSamba.

It's a Volkswagen site/forum with a lot of Air-Cooled folks doing back-yard-turbo conversions and the like. Also lots of water cooled VW owners who enjoy playing around with turbo tech for short money. I've bought and sold turbos, intakes, carbs and such many times over there.
It's free to list things in the classifieds and the site has an extremely large following !
Luck,

OK, no movement here or else where. It's off to eBay soon. Anyone want it?
Here is a list of all the cars / trucks that used that turbo depending on the exact spec of it.

Here is a list of the vehicles that use that exact unit based on the Turbo code I could read in the photo.

Wow, dean thanks that's awesome to help update the add elsewhere. what would happen if you were to bolt this onto a petrol rather than diesel engine?
Turbine and compressor sizes are mismatched to work well on anything but a diesel.
Sure it will make boost, but it will be an inefficient, laggy bitch.
