I'm glad I'm broke after buying another car and don't really have a way to haul this back from Ohio right now.
How do you open a hood with a broken cable? I'm actually interested. 
All the Vette vendors offer a version of the emergency hood tool. It's very affordable.

If it broke off inside, vise grips. Outside requires a tool
I made the tool after I shut the hood on Pats, there are how tos all over the interwebs. Looks like a deal.

Coat hanger...though it would be very helpful to know what you're attempting to accomplish beforehand. Basically, you can reach from the cowl through the pointy end of the hood on each side & pull the tab the hood cable connects into, which will release that side.
The cable on mine is still intact, but at times it doesn't want to release. I preemptively made a pull for both sides out of some relatively stiff/springy wire that's about 1/2 the size of a coat hanger. It tucks into the cowl and stays in place under the leading edge of the windshield.

It was that Isuzu. Went to my normal Sat. Mass rather than stay home and bid on it. Saved my wallet at least. I'll actually go now and see what it went for. 
Vette-cart? Super-Exocet? There is some good hardware there for the money.
