Alright guys so I have a question. I need to convert from cable clutch to hydraulic and was thinking about this. Its made for Hondas but it seems to accept the clutch cable on one side with a pivot to puch a master cylinder on the other. could mount it and run a line to the slave on the subaru trans. what do you think? any other options? The first thing that occurs to me in terms of the least mechanical mayhem is to check with Wilwood or similar folks about a hydraulic clutch pedal that can be relatively simply fit to this application.
I have no idea what sort of location you've got to work with... A quick google suggests this car has top-hanging pedals; any chance something like this could be fitted?
The 5.3 from the Impalla SS will bolt up to a Chevy F40 transaxle from the Cobalt SS. It's a 6-speed. It seems to be what the Fiero guys are using and having good luck with last I heard. Of course that's been a few years...
@Ransom I like the pedal idea. my only concern was how tight the space is in the pedal box. Ill look closer tomorrow and see if its possible to remove the stock pedal and fit something like you showed.
also, i thought about the f40 transverse setup but I would have to hack up the frame, doesn't seem right, even though it's been hacked quite a bit already.
News: I got the front brake pads and hardware kit. ordered new brake lines ($150) and will have stopping power later this week!

Wasn't the 308 already a transverse setup?
yes it was, but the engine sits directly above the trans. the top of the trans is like the oil pan (though the ferrari engine was dry sump) theres only about 24in between the suspension and frame that holds the upper and lower control arms. A guy did swap a fiero setup in a gts but modified the frame. longitudinal seems like the best idea after all the measuring. more even weight distribution, better driveline angles, stock suspension geometry, and a cleaner more stock looking appearance [URL=http://s828.photobucket.com/user/voorhen/media/Ferrari-308-GTSi-Quattrovalvole-1982-1985-Photo-02_zpscf66d50b.jpg.html][/URL]

My home is in Indiana, But the car is with me at school in Kansas. I go to McPherson College, they are the only school in the states that offers a 4 year bachelors in automotive restoration. I thought the Ferrari would be a nice "school" project!

Thanks guys! yeah I love the program. right now I'm working on making a custom set of dies to make a new door skin from scratch. Everything done to the car will be done and/or made by me. Quick question: Im going to be building 180* headers that will feed the twins. does anybody know if the turbos will ruin the sound of the headers? I hope they wont!

Not really. They will muffle it though. You will get the whine from the turbos, but if you don't like that noise then GTFO! You "should" be able to get away without mufflers too if you use turbos. Maybe run some Dynomax race bullets and you'll be OK. Are you looking to do something along the lines of the Ferrari F40 as far as engine & turbo placement? Cuz that'd be awesome...
Conquest351, yea the turbos will look kinda the same in terms of placement. I want the 180* headers for the flat plane crank sound. should sound amazing with a couple turbos spooling as well!! Im not planning on running mufflers! Im running a single 66mm charger in my cummins right now; spooling 60psi and making 607hp. I love the sound of turbos though I love the feel of them as well! haha

I was kinda hoping you'd have gone with a more modern V8 option, but the LS isn't a bad option.
The Audi 4.2L V8 is available with a 6-speed transaxle that is more compact and less likely to grenade than the TT LS and Subie box option.

Still, I'm all for seeing this project completed and running and the 180degree headers will go a long way towards getting the sounds right.
I thought about an 01e, a g50, renault un1, but subie stuff is easier and cheaper. I know the 5 speed is a lot weaker than the six, but I like the 5 speed ratios. as for the engine id rather not deal with timing belts, the complication of wiring, tuning and maintenance. I want this to be an enjoyable car that has little maintenance. as long as I don't break the subie box. PPG gears can fix that. Now I'm thinking about the sound of 180* headers, straight cut gears whining, and turbos spooling!!! Whoa... guess I don't need to worry about a stereo...
Not much new. Finally got the transmission; so now I can work on the adapter. I started working on the deerskin and got the dies made for the Dake. Wish I could remember how to use auto cad! BTW the difference between the panels has to do with the paint and the curve of the door..
