So I posted a while back about building a bike powered buggy. Well I bought an engine, its a 2004 Ducati 999. My first step is to get the engine running, but I am having trouble deciding what route to take. My options as I see it are:

1. Locate factory ecu and harness injectors etc.. and run with OE fuel/igntion

2. Run some sort of megasquirt/haltech for both fuel and spark

3.Run a standalone igntion only and run carbs

I think no.1 will be close to $1000 after I locate all the pieces(too much). I'm leaning towards no.2 because I have used megasquirt in the past with good results. I initially thought option 3 would be cheaper with just a igntion controller but it turns out most igniton boxes cost more than the microsquirt controller I was looking at. What do you guys think would be the best option for cost/reliability/ease of installation.

I think you pretty much answered your own question already.  Option 1 is too much money, option 3 is too much money for what you're paying for, and option 2 is just right.  You already have familiarity with the setup and, short of the controller itself, a lot of the FI parts you need for the swap (manifold, etc).  Also, there are many brainiacs on this forum, some of whom work for /formerly worked for Megasquirt.  So jump in with many pics.
