What happened in the video with the snow an ice? It almost looked like a throttle dump caused the back end to come out and then it just ended up losing it from there?

Also, awesome and fantastic to see someone rally cross and autocross one of these. I always see them hard parked at shows. It's cool to see one driven and enjoyed properly.

Yes, most likely that is what happened... the fronts got pulled into some soft stuff in the center of the road, I backed out of the throttle.

I have gone over the whole thing my head many times, and I can't honestly remember if I punched the clutch, or was using the engine to slow me down. Obviously, either way I didn't have enough traction (and skill) at that moment.

But, you use it, you break it, you fix it, you make it better...that is just all part of the game

True that. Nice thread and way awesome that you're enjoying it as much as you are at the track :)

Minor victory today:

Finally got the windshield cut out of that old 76 tub: photo 20160917_113239.jpg

WITH OUT breaking it!

 photo 20160917_113236.jpg

Salvaging that windshield, pretty much justifies the purchase price of the tub. Plus there is still usable parts left on it that can either be stashed away or sold to help pay for other parts AND I can use it to mock up my roll cage before putting it my car...

I love it when plan comes together.

Post photos of C4 suspension- we've got a lot of rallycrossers here, and I've prepped a number of inappropriate vehicles for RallyX so I'm sure we can come up with something!

Ok I know These are late but here are the pics of the suspension.

The front suspension is missing the steering rack. The rear suspension is missing the toe links, and both are missing the transverse leaf spring. But, since I want to switch to adjustable coilovers thats not an issue.

I also have the suspension from an 84 complete with it's frame sections to reference all of the pick up points. I went from having none, to apparently hoarding these things in a years time

 photo 20141112_193750.jpg

I wanted to take a nice shot with the tub, the suspension, and the frame, but my step father doesn't seem to think I need to take up space in his machine shed on the nice concrete floor for that

So now I am thinking about building something similar to Thinkkker's frame table from his mustang II build in my tiny garage

Because if you are going to do something... make it as hard as you can right?

Thankyou for your enthusiasm for Conrad. I am planning on taking him with me to Rallycross nationals. I am hoping to find some competitors that would be willing to be interviewed by a talking road cone

If you have been following the RallyCross Nationals thread, you will know that I didn't go into it thinking I would be competitive... or even respectfully fast. I wasn't THE slowest, but I was close. It seemed the harder I pushed, the slower I got. It was pointed out to me that the suspension seems to be struggling with the rough terrain. Watching some video it does seem that the shocks don't have enough dampening to keep everything in check. It looked like a full on episode of Dukes of Hazzard I Need to investigate shock options, and MORE PRACTICE!

Over the weekend, I was able to upload a bunch of video from my runs and thought everyone might like to see them.

Also, I started a Conrad the Cone Aventure thread, in the Adventure and trips section... with his own take on the weekend.

Hope everyone enjoys!

Well it has been a while since I last checked in. Things have been pretty crazy busy with the work and holidays, but some fun stuff has happened... like this:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/IbvYIn4o9vs

I can check that off my bucket list now

also, more of the mundane:

 photo drive.jpg

This is the face I make, when I know I have to shovel again....

 photo shovel.jpg

...and I have been throwing this one around FB because it makes me smile,

 photo VETTESNOW.jpg

As it was mentioned before we had the Vette out for Christmas

 photo xmas.jpg

and the salt buildup from the hour and half road trip

 photo salty.jpg

Conrad and I fixed some stuff:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/f8YmD0UPyu0

https://www.youtube.com/embed/fSBFBKeiCm0

https://www.youtube.com/embed/4D2sa5kiW8A

All of that so we could go RallyCross on Sunday, It was our regions first event of the year and back at the sandy cornfield from April. Only this time is was frozen solid! I spliced together some of the footage of that day here:

https://www.youtube.com/embed/5_RXvPTErDg

I got to meet fellow forum member Karacticus, and the weather was nice for the middle of January in Iowa. I think fun was had by all, and we got home before the ice storm set in the night.

Side note:

On the way to Rally GPS took us down a questionable back road to get to the site... and I forded a stream with the Dirtball!

No video of the crossing but these pics were taken after I crossed, and then subsequently spun almost a full 180 on the ice... but IT WAS EPIC!

 photo stream1.jpg

 photo stream2.jpg

 photo stream3.jpg

Ok, that is it for now. I hope everyone enjoys... I am still editing the footage from my runs and should have those up soon!

How deep was the water? I'd be just a bit concerned of the buoyancy of a fiberglass car.

No, Pete. You should know that vets are just upside down fiberglass boats. They float real well if you roll them.

Mad Hatter very clever and creative videos!

Not exactly sure how deep it was. I am guessing it was about 7"-8". It was deep enough in the middle, the wake pushed up over the nose past the headlights.

I have an ace up my sleeve though... I removed all the carpet and sound deadening, leaving the factory drain holes wide open. So the water gets high enough, the floors flood... instant ballast!

I can see the conundrum, C4 have so much potential and C3 look great and can be made to handle very respectfuly...

The path I am headed down is C3 with C4 goodness underneath... So best of both worlds?

Wow, it has been a long time since I posted to this thread...

A lot has happened, we had a lower control arm bushing go for a walk about, we did HOT ROD power tour long, and most notable we hit a deer on a morning commute. (Which you may remember.)

https://www.youtube.com/embed/laH6JcrYTO0

And then two weeks after that, we sheared one of the rear spindles

Been doing repairs, have lots of pics and ideas.... more to come!
