More good news keeps things rolling! Trans has been rebuilt and I was able to get it back into the car by myself! It all went back together smoothly if I would have had the right tools and a helping hand when needed it would have been a one full day job. But having never done a rebuild and doing it by myself I would say a one week rebuild ant to shabby!
It took two tries to get the trans back in. The second try got it in with not much fuss at all. I have a pic with one little trick that made a world of difference! I will upload it soon. I also did some video so I think im going to wait and put the exhaust in the next video which will mean it will be a few weeks. Monday I will call and get my name on the list for the shop.
Also I have decided on an exhaust! I am going to run Ricer Fart Cannons!
<img src="" />
I think it might be to loud and if so I will add some cats or something to get it a bit quieter. I think the look will make the car. Everyone seeing the car sitting in a parking lot will figure its another rice burner but....
I think its going to be a 2.5" system with an X pipe so finger crossed it will all fit under there. I might also build a new trans mount since the granny speed kit has been nothing but trouble and I can build one that will better suites my needs for running the exhaust.
I also have a bit of a challenge with the car, I guy from work is having a SR20DET put into his S13 240SX. But he is having someone do the swap for him. We are always giving each other a hard time about who's car will be done first and who's car will be faster. We are both getting down the line and its been fun to keep up with his build and talk crap about mine!
Did you test drive the new trans yet?
And having heard straight through fart cannons on v8s before, I thinkyou are in for plepleasant surprise.
There is also a place, thunder something, on the net, with stupid cheap high flow cats. Planning on grabbing a pair to tone down the duster at some point.
By stupid cheap, think $40 each.

Dang that is cheap!! I will add that to the list of things that I will do if the car is still to loud!
My game plan is 2.5" Xpipe and the fart cans. If its to loud then I will put the fart can baffles back in or try the auger style baffles in the fart cans. If that does not work I will add the mini Speedway Motorsports racing mufflers. Then cats. I hope to get the volume right really don't want to be crazy loud!
Yes I have test drove the trans! It went well only down the road and back. Went through all the gears and everything worked well. Still hard to get in and out of gears but that's more of the fault of the shifter I have then anything else.
Finally photos!
Trans did get a good clean up but with out a fancy parts washer I was not going to worry about all the little corners and what not.
This was my little trick that held the clutch fork in place letting me slip the trans back into the clutch. Most people won't have the two bolts in the bell housing but might work for some people needing a quick fix.
This is what iv been after today, just getting things ready to hit the road. So I tucked some of the wires away which makes it look soooo much better! I made a list of things that have to be done before it goes to the shop. After the exhaust gets installed I am going to drive the car about 4 miles to my work where I am going to have a shop below ours do the inspection and then leave it at work till I get the tag then drive it home, (That's the plan at least)
I am also trying to track down the horn issues. Everything in the car looks to be working and im getting 12v to the button on the steering wheel. I can hear the relay click (photo below) but I have no idea where the horn wires go or what color they are...
This is the box that is clicking (FB01) seems to be a master switch blinker combo box. The blinkers work and the horn seems to work but I just need to figure out what wire I need to pull from the get the horn to work. Anyone able to figure out this wiring harnesses better then me? -rx7 fc wirring- Looks to be on page 50-58, My very slow internet won load it for me...
Iv also thought about going efi with this thing even more. So I have the injector harness from a SN95 mustang and upper and lower intake/ throttle body, mass air sensor, ECM. So Im thinking about making my own harness from the ECM I have to the injector harness that I have. Not knowing 100% but I think most of the wiring I need will be on the injector harness.
The harness has 30 pins going out and the ECM has 60 pins going in. I know there is a lot of things I don't that don't have to be used in the ECM but not knowing enough I can't tell if it will be worth it to find a "pig tail" that plugs into the ECM and then wire that up to the harness. Or if I will be more or less making a new harness (that's not worth it to me)
I know I am missing some sensors but I hope to make a junk yard run and get them or just get them from rock auto. Anyone have a good list or website that talks about mustang EFI stuff? Whats needed whats not, wiring diagrams ect?
Still more good news! The RX7 will be headed to the exhaust shop next Wednesday! I have a short list to get done but the main issue is that I need to get done is the horn. Tonight I found the wire I needed for the horn and hooked it up and nothing! Not 100% sure what the deal is but I would really like to figure out what the issue is but if it comes down to the wire I will make a new horn setup.
Took the EFI harness and put the intake more or less together but I am missing a few pieces that I know I will need. The injector harness does not plug into the mass air harness or intake temp sensor. Still looking for a good wiring diagram or harness layout. Might head over to a mustang forum to and get some help over there.
You've also got those guys in locust that part out mustangs. May be able to get a complete harness from them.
They really only know the foxbody stuff I told them about the parts for the SN95 and they gave me a look like I was crazy. I asked about getting a full harness and ecu and sensors from them a long time ago and he said it would cost me like $1500... way out of my price range!

I'd try to get the EFI bits from an Explorer/Mountainer 5.0 instead of SN95. Better intake manifold. And the later computer is probably no worse than the one in the SN95 and may be an upgrade as well although I don't know for sure about that part.
The thing about going with a Fox 5.0 EFI setup is that they're the most commonly tinkered with 5.0 platform so that's where the best aftermarket support is. SN95 is kind of the red-headed stepchild of the three I've mentioned.
Yep the SN95 is most definitely not the norm but with a Quarterhorse I can tune it myself. I had the explorer intake setup(GT40) but it was to tall to fit under the hood. The intake from the SN I don't want to run explorer efi because I will have to put a whole new timing cover on the motor for a crank position sensor ect ect.
In reply to Skervey:
Oh, ha, yeah. I remember that exchange now, where I told you to get a cowl hood center to get the space you'd need.
Ya id love to have a turbo II hood but finding one that's my color for not crazy$ is not going to happen and I also like the stock base model look of my car.
Went to the Corral form and asked about the EFI over there -link to corral forum- still working through it. I did find a really good pin out of the ECU. Now im just trying to see what the bear minimum parts are to get the system to work. Then from there I will build the new harness and put it onto the motor after a while and sell my carb setup. The carb setup should be an easy sell since its complete.
Here is a little update!
The mufflers have arrived!!
They look like they will fit well and look the part. Thanks to mightymike for the mock up!
Also hit up a junkyard today and grabbed some good stuff! I picked up a trans cooler just in case I want to put a oil cooler on the mazda. The biggest thing I got was a wiring harness aka "pig tail" for the computer and for the injector harness. Looks like it will need to be repined because I pulled it out of a Ford Explorer but I needed it for the conectors more then anything.
Still trying to figure out what else I might need as far as sensors for the EFI system. No one can give me a straight answer as far that goes and it seems like no one knows anything on the 94-95 harness... Might have to pick up a foxbody computer... Oh EFI what fun!!
I should have gone with you guys, I haven't been to a junkyard in a long time.
What yard is that?
And try hotrodders.com for the efi question. Plenty of street rod guys have used efi ford stuff. I'm not sure what you need with the ford, and don't want to confuse you.
Stock rx7 oil cooler should work great for an oil cooler.
Just had a thought: search for the gearheadefi forum. Those guys are incredible, and don't mind spoon feeding.
They have a dedicated ford section, but I stay in the gm stuff.
The stock oil cooler was a bit big for my needs and I was already at the junk yard and there were so many trans coolers and so easy to get to so I just grabbed one!
I will have to check them out and see if they can help any. The connector for the ECU that I picked up will not work... So back to the drawing board!
The sway bar is giving lots of trouble and looks like it all not be ready by the time it goes to get the exhaust. I need to heat and bend the bar to fit. Also trying to get a rear view mirror hooked up so that it will pass inspection. Then just need to pick up a new headlight and im good to go! (fingers crossed!)
Don't have time for a big update but thanks to mightymike the car is at the shop! We were able to load the car with some different techniques but it worked. Don't know how long it will take but they should be working on it this morning!
You gonna try to drive it home?
Yes and no. Im going to get it insured then drive it about 3 miles to work. I can lock it up at work till I have the tag then cruse home! Thats the plan at least!
The car is at Hughes auto in Charlotte. The guys there are good and know there stuff. Bends are good and its done in a way that keeps it as high as it can be since the car is so low. Its already done I drove up friday night and had a look and more importantly a lisson! Sounds good! Thats all I will say should have a video of the progress in about a week!
I know those guys. Also know the guy that built the building and owned it for twenty years, before selling it to Hughes.
Good guys.
And I'm going to have to try to talk you into a ride when it's done. For some reason I think I want an fc, and need either encouragement or a reason not to.
Absolutely! Still have some finishing to do. Sway bar, tack, radio, intake, heat covers, wires. Haha still a lot but having it be a driving project is so much better then on jack stands!
