It's not the fabrication that worries me, it's all the parts I need to make it work

From what we've seen in this thread you could probably get that engine mounted and running if I gave you four coat hangers and some scotch tape and put you, the engine and the car in a field for about 3 hours.
Anyone else really curious if he actually could use coat hangers as tension wires to secure the new mill in there?
What kind of car did that Ford engine come out of? The reason I ask is because 5.0's have two different flavors. Standard and H.O. By the stamped steel valve covers I'm guessing it's a standard. It has a different firing order as well as weaker internals, lower compression, non roller camshaft. You have to be careful when choosing your parts as they may not work. H.O's were found in Mustangs, Lincoln LSC's, and later T-Birds/Cougars (the ones with IRS).

I found out too late that It's not an HO. It has ported/polished heads and a Ford Racing cam in it, though. I have already found a GT40 upper and lower intake, 70mm maf, 24 lb injectors, road race oil pan and A/C delete pulleys for it but still need headers and wiring harness for it.
This might help on your header search:
http://www.onlymustangfords.com/mustang-headers.html
Unless someone has more intimate experience with headers for this application.
Good luck!
Fox Mustangs came with shorty tube headers. They didn't flow great but you can use them for test fitting and then buy nicer ones. Most Mustang guys have a few sets of stock headers clogging up their garage so you could probably find a set for next to free.
I'm sorry that your engine isn't an H.O. but they're plentiful in the junk yards and cheap. You can look in pre 2002 Explorers and Mountaineers for engines with GT40p heads. They're worth about 15 to 20 HP right off the bat. If you do switch to an H.O. engine REMEMBER THIS!!!... The water pump on an H.O. spins the opposite way as a standard. Having read about your previous cooling issues I don't want you to get frustrated again.

Doesn't seem to be an abundance of anything locally. That's pretty frustrating reading that the HO water pump spins the opposite as others, because it's just one more thing I have to buy. I'm about ready to throw in the towel for this year.
I should clarify by saying that it's the belt routing that requires a different pump for the H.O. It doesn't use a reverse cooling system. In other words. If you get a junk yard H.O. and want to use the pulleys you currently have, you need to also use the water pump you're currently using. It will bolt right up. It's not that big a deal.
Looks like a truck 5.0, at least depending on year it came with the better E7 heads found on the Mustangs. I can't remember if they are roller cam or not though. I don't think they were. Very easy conversion though- crown vics, grand marquis, and towncar from 87-91 can donate those parts, except the cam.
I wouldn't suggest running the truck accessories, they are more than likely similar to the crown vic ones, and don't like spinning above 4000rpm. Even with an underdrive pulley (the one and only performance part made for a crown vic), I keep blowing radiators and heater cores apart. :(
Foxbody stang headers are dirt cheap from pretty much anywhere. I think I have a spare set also.
Wiring harness can come from a stang or 87-91 crown vic/grand marquis. The vic has the ECU on the drivers side though. For mass air, the conversion on the vic harness is the same.

The V12 rebuild will happen, but not right now. To do it right, the cams have to be reground ($1000) and high compression pistons ($2500) stuffed in there-not to mention another $1000 worth of gaskets/seals. As is typical for these kind of projects, the "free" engine I was given was actually going to be quite costly to put in the car. It came out of a truck and even though the Mustang and F150 5.0 were similar, they are not the same. The location of accessories, intake, compression ratio, camshaft, pistons, water pump and other tidbits are different so getting the same performance out of a truck engine is more costly and difficult. Fortunately, I found a complete and running Mustang 5.0 HO engine locally for $200.00 and it even includes headers. On the left is the High Output 5.0 and on the right is the F150 engine, notice that the water pumps spin in opposite directions:

I would highly suggest you shop around. Don't by slugs for a V12, but them for something else and have them resized. When I was looking at rebuilding the Volvo B20 I found that a 4.6 mod motor piston would fit the small end and I could bore the block out enough to fit it and the cost of under $20 per forged piece.
Not sure what to make with the cam - have you just called the popular companies? I don't think the cost wil be that high fir a Comp cams or whatever to do that.

I should do some digging and find cheaper parts but right now I'm up to my neck in Ford 5.0

The best source I have found is summit's awesome website. Give me bore/wristpin/stuff and I can check a little for you if you want...
The 5.0 was pretty dirty so I removed all the brackets and started cleaning. I soaked it in engine degreaser then used a wire brush on the end of a drill to get the thick stuff. Then I used a garden hose to rinse the engine off so I could take a closer look. If I found any more grime, I soaked that area with degreaser and scrubbed some more. After several cycles of degreaser-rinse-inspect I was able to go over the whole engine with brake cleaner to remove the film left by the degreaser. Then I sprayed it with Ford Racing Blue engine paint. Before and after:
Ok, this is going to sound pathetic but it's true. This project has exploded in costs (as all these things seem to do) and the supposedly cheaper option of putting a 5.0 in is every bit as expensive as fixing the V12. I desperately want to run the car at this years Nationals and my wife and I are already registered but business (www.speedworld.ca) is painfully slow and I am still some expensive parts away from getting it together. Does anybody know where I can get any of the following parts for a 86-93 5.0 at a good price? Flywheel, pressure plate, T5 transmission, universal wiring harness, efi fuel pump. Of lesser importance are a good roller cam, underdrive pulleys and proper shorty headers. E-mail me marksawatsky at gmail dot com if you have something I could use.

ARG! Should have just rebuilt the V12!!
I only know one Mustang guy - I'll ask him.

You're telling me! It's very frustrating-hopefully all will be forgotten if I make it to Nationals and am sort of competitive
I put a call out to the v8 mg guys - I'll rummage through a few boxes tonight. I've got an engine harness, but it might be a little hacked up.
Corral forum has been a good source for a lot of my ford bronco buddies. http://forums.corral.net/forums/windsor-engine-parts/
The only things my source has kicking about are a clutch cable and tranny mount. He has everything else already bolted to his car, but the entire car is out of your budget.

Thanks for the heads up on this forum, there are lots of parts for sale there-hopefully I can find some in my budget
