It amuses me that on most cars the doors are the easiest piece of the body to remove, but on yours they are the most permanent part of the body.

In reply to DILYSI Dave:

6 bolts per door, not really a big deal but I haven't seen a need for engineering some kind of quick release mechanism because it wouldn't make ingress/egress any easier. I spent today tightening fasteners and double checking everything before I drive it, which I hope is soon.

I drove it today! I'm thrilled with how light and tossable the car feels. The electric power steering seems to have some trouble keeping up in really rapid direction changes but it's really minor. Also, the coolant temp was only good when I kept rpm up but got hot at idle so I must have an air pocket in there still. Looking at the data logger, the MAF is getting confused and only allowed throttle to open 37% so that explains why it felt a little less zippy than the 5.0 V8. The brake bias knob works perfectly, a few clicks changed from locking up rears only to locking up all four. The shifting is pretty easy, too. I linked to the edited video but I will be uploading the raw, unedited video and you will need to be a subscriber to see those. https://youtu.be/DhcTaH_hMCE

That was awesome. What is the clanking I heard through the video?

The clank is the chains I use to lift car (I left them attached) and the thump-thump-thump is something stuck on a tire

Man so much progress since I last checked in! Why are you going subscribers-only though? I assume you'll be emailing unlisted links to subscribers (since otherwise anyone can see the videos on your user page)? I only log into YouTube to upload videos.

I'm not going subscribers only. All videos are public, however I have the edited videos that I tell you about on this forum then I have the unedited videos that I just upload to YouTube and don't link anywhere so if you want to see them, you should be a subscriber. You could still see them if you checked the YouTube page

That electric power steering problem I was having? It was actually an Ackerman problem. The suspension program I use shows Ackerman error and such and I wasn't reading it correctly so I had anti-Ackerman. Watch the video, see how I solved it https://youtu.be/S6pZo0d8qAs

Flattering, but I hope this build helps others with their build or at least inspires people to challenge themselves.

i'm really interested in what's possible long before electrode hits steel. Can you list all the tools you're using for suspension/general chassis design?

Wooo Hoooo!

When and where is the first Auto X?

I hope you are able to get some testing in first.

Great insight. I'm glad I wrestled so much with determining Ackerman ahead of time (with your help). Hopefully I'll be testing my setup soon.

The frame was designed using Grape and the suspension was designed with Performance Trends. Links here: http://www.grapesoftware.mb.ca/grape5_003.htm http://performancetrends.com/

First autocross is Springnationals in Lincoln,Ne May 27-29. The only testing before then will be the kart track and dyno because I live where the weather sucks until June

You need a couple of people in Karts dogging you a-la Ken Block!

Awesome results, I can sense the lightweigtedness of that thing. Can't wait to see it unleashed. Need to drive it into an MG meet.

Had some tricky cooling system problems, and I solved them with a coolant surge tank. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxHw_03-ee4

Sweet videos. It must be nice to have your own indoor test track! How fast were you going?

35 mph seems very fast when you have poles and walls everywhere

A new video two days in a row! I had some strange things going on with the MAF settings and the fix was surprisingly simple and effective. You may have similar problems with your modified car and not even know it. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wse7neJIB0Q

I purchased a device from Dakota Digital that should have provided the signal I need for the ECM but so far it hasn't worked. I also made some changes to the coolant plumbing and the pins that hold the front end on. Here's a video of the changes: https://youtu.be/GpoyO3wftdo

Really enjoying this. What's the anticipated first trip outside the kart track?

The plan is: Get VSS working so engine makes full 350hp/375Tq and test drive on kart track. If all looks good with no overheating, no breakage and no slipping clutch then car gets disassembled, painted and put back together. Then it's off to dyno and after that it's just a matter of waiting for snow to melt or Springnationals in Lincoln at end of May, whichever comes first.

I did not have a shrouded fan on the radiator, until now. And in keeping with the theme of the car, too much is just right. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pO8SMvDcUaE
