Yesterday I trimmed unnecessary fiberglass off the fenders but any more weight loss is going to take some dollars or plenty of time to lose ounces. The car is 100 lbs over minimum so that is an area that could be improved. I have headlight covers going on tomorrow and that is the last of the aero mods. If I had to guess at any weaknesses the car has, I would say that the transmission could be improved (very expensive but it would be a lot quicker) and maybe a quick change rear end would be lighter, permit better ratio adjustments and give me some camber in the back. All that being said, I'm feeling very positive about my chances at a trophy this year, if I can get a good set up where I can concentrate on the driving and not what the car is doing.
In reply to loosecannon: Quick change with IRS? And if money were no object a sequential Gbox? Looking forward to you putting a beat down on that sprite thingy this season......best of luck!

I wouldn't go to IRS, too heavy. I would go with a Winters quick change with full floating hubs. The best deal I found on a sequential is for a Quaife 6 speed with double overdrive, but it's $9000 and that's about $8000 more than I can come up with. Also, there's more to a sequential than just cramming it into the car, you have to get the motor to briefly interrupt the torque while the gears change, and that is not so simple in my car.
In reply to loosecannon: then possibly some sort of PDK with paddles(showing my limited knowledge)? How much camber adjust can one get with full floating hubs?
Isn't there a sequential shifter solution available for the 4-speed box you're using? I think I've seen them for about $1000.
Granted you'd still have to convert the box to dog rings and figure out how to get your EFI to cut the throttle during shifts.
So while closer to reality than the $9000 Quaiffe box, it isn't quite there.

Nothing available other than full sequential race transmissions. Full floater rear ends can have -1.5 camber or maybe more.

I think you are talking about the Renegate and they seem to be out of business. I have left numerous messages and e-mail and they will not return anything. I found a video of a race team using the Renegate and contacted them and they claim the system was crap and had to custom machine nearly every part to make it work correctly.
My headlight covers arrived today and I'm quite pleased with how they look

I also have a working tach for the first time but have no pictures of that. I used a Dakota Digital Tach converter box and used a signal from one of the coils to trigger it.
There's this for paddle shifting
Should be adaptable with some work. You'd still need dog rings to make full use of it.

The kit starts at 3500 Euro and I would still need to change the guts of the transmission to make it work right. I would rather get the Quaife and have 2 more gears to work with and KNOW that it all works right. My first event in 12 hours drive away on the first weekend in May-depressingly far away ;(
Headlight covers look good. Do you know if your aftermarket ECU can handle sequential shifting? That's not an unusual feature for a modern EMS. If not, look into how the ECU would respond to an externally-controlled spark cut and go that route...that's how virtually all sequential shifts work. Cut spark, shift gear, reintroduce spark. In the old days it was just a switch on the shifter mechanism (spark was enabled when the stick was centered).
It's all coming together now. I took the aluminum panel I had covering the grill opening and had a local vinyl graphics place put a decal of an MGB grill on it-it looks real!

Check out people like Sienz in Florida for dog-ring gearsets

While I agree IRS from most production cars is heavy there are a lot of Formula cars/Indy cars that have very light IRS. I have seen some bits from wrecked and obsolete Indy cars sell for extremely modest prices..
In reply to frenchyd:
In EMod, I doubt there is a significant advantage to getting IRS over a good stick axle. The car that has won the last 12 years in a row has a modified RX-7 stick axle and he seems to do just fine.
Kyle sent me the updated 3D image of the car and I can't wait to see the CFD results.

In reply to loosecannon: awesome program....can't remember does the intercooler exhaust by your right shoulder?
In reply to 759NRNG:
No, that's the intake for intercooler. There is a fan underneath that draws air through from the top. And the CFD shows significant airflow through intercooler
In reply to loosecannon:
Is that splitter made out of sheet aluminum? I widened my fenders to fit 10 in wide tires on my MG and have to make a new splitter. The last one I made was plywood covered with fiberglass but I think I could whip one out of aluminum a lot quicker.
In reply to MGS10:
The white one with all the stickers on it was a double layer of Alumalite but the latest one is just 1/8" (or maybe 3/16) aluminum.
