Getting closer to having a manual shift option. So the interceptor does not have select shift/manual shifting and yesterdfay i foudn out why. they limit the column shifter range. taking the cable off the lever on the trans you are able to go one additional "click" this is the trans going into sport mode. So to solve this. i need to cut the column and allow for extra travel. thats part 1.

part 2 is wiring in switches for select up and select down shifting. this is done so by accessing wires that may or may not exist, or adding wires and pinning them into the locations as required on the PCM. there are 3 total wires that need to be pinned. one for upshift, one for downshift, and a common wire for both. The pcm looks for a ground trigger to tell the trans to shift based on what wire was triggered.

Part 3 is uploading the trans shift strategy tune from a base taurus sho. this is assuming its not already in the PCM. it may very well be.

Part 4 is using some sort of switch to trigger the shifts. This is where I get excited.... I am going to use a Racing Simulator aluminum body sequential shifter to accomplish this. It is robust, gives you the feeling you are connected to the trans, but in reality youre just completing a circuit. Pair this with a big ole Gear Shift indicator wired into the ob2 canbus, and boom. Temu Hoonitruck begins to look reallll familiar.

I like that shifter idea. I hope it works out for you to use. I wonder if there would be a cheaper option to put together your own for challenge purposes?

I don't know what all goes into it, but would it just be two switches and a handle?

I could definitely make one cheaper. Id have to look what goes into the ratchet mechanism. Thats what i really want it for. Micro switches and a small pipe that pivots on one end with opposing spring tension wouldnt be too hard. Its mimicking the feel of being connected to the trans thast tricky lol

Wait... hang on. You're going to put a racing simulator shifter into your real racing car so that the real car's shifter feels more... realistic? I like where this is going.

Will Sport mode hold a gear or upshift before you are ready?

I have never driven anything with a sequential transmission, what does being connected to the transmission feel like?

I always just imagined it as a "healthy click" into place feeling

I don't know if you could just make a thicker version of the ww2 clicker? To add to the switch so that it has to click the clicker to activate the switch. Just throwing out ideas.

My BIL builds and sells sim sequential shifters. His use magnets to provide the resistance. I have one destined for a car but haven't taken it apart to see exactly how it works. It does have a very satisfying, heavy click when actuated.

The nicer sim racing handbrakes are just a legit racing handbrake with a sensor on a plate bolted where your standard master cylinder bolts on. We have one for our challenge car

Sport mode will actually let you take it to fuel cut and homd the gear. Which should help in autox. I wont drag race in sport, better to let it donits thing in drive. But i will be able to engage in some sweet hoonage. Lol

Sounds counter intuitive, but they are very realisitc. S1 makes sequential shifters that are physically connected to the trans and just ratchets much like these. So the intent is to trick your brain. Nothing like using the VR world in the real world to make the real world seem more, real....

My how the turn tables...

The first 2 of 4 fifteen 52 turbo mac wheels have been ordered! If you have a turn14 distributor access or know someone who does, they have an entire section of scratch and dent wheels that are marked down roughly 50% or more from retail. Mostly due to minor cosmetic blemishes. will be keeping my eye out for the last 2, but its a start! For reference, these wheels are between 275 and 295 a piece.

Is this deal available to the general public? Those wheels look awesome and I'd like some for a project too!

In reply to dyintorace :

you would have to find someone who is a distributor for turn 14. i cant access turn 14 myself. so i had to ask a few people who would look for me then purchase it through them. They update their scratch and dent inventory daily though. so i just reach out every few days. hoping to find the missing 2 wheels within the next few weeks!

That's what we are doing with Colin, too.  It feels very nice!

Just need to extend the knob up and forward for best distance from the steering wheel.
