Another new video, a lot of sheet metal progress! Also some finishing motor work.

Nice work as usual! You stick the tungsten out pretty far, how much is your gas flow?

right at 30, now im fairly sure its lph. Gas lenses allow for a lot of stick out compared to standard. super helpful in tight positions and actually just keeping the weld cool.

A smaller cup allows you to get in tight places too with less gas usage. In the Air Force we usually only used a gas lense for welding titanium parts for the SR-71 (with shielding gas to the backside of course).

True but tiny cups increase the heat affected zone, every time i now use the tiny cups (outside of aluminum) im never pleased with the result.

Been working a lot lately on the wiring harness. There are a ton of wires that go into a car, im learning this as i add them all in from scratch. Luckily im using a pdm so i dont have to wire in a ton of relays and everything is computer controlled and communicates through CAN. The other thing ive learned is how god dang expensive wiring stuff is. I’ve probably spent about 1000 on just supplies. Not to mention the ecu and pdm. I must say so far ive been completely impressed with everything ive got from haltech. They have a wealth of information for subaru stuff, their products are good, and their tuning program is easy to use. In fact i already have the base map made for it  piratenanner.gif
getting this motor started is the priority and its close.
Here you can see i made a mock up harness out of rope and labeled all the connectors so i can simply make up the engine harness outside the car in the comfort of a chair.

Consider that rope harness trick to be stolen. Thanks.

As a person not so patiently waiting for my Haltech Nexus R3 that will run the EJ257 I just sourced for the LMP360 I am very interested in watching how this goes for you.

I will have questions.  Can I have your base map?

So for the base map, haltech supplys them with the tuning software. The thing about it is you and I likely dont have the same needs or hardware. Input and output assigning will take forever and are install specific. Like i run an intercooler fan, i know you're na now but idk your plans. So if i were you id work with the haltech base map, import it to an r3 and plug away! Just don't forget to future proof the install. Leave in wires you might want and just throw them on a connector. (I added plugs for dbw even though i may never touch it, i like cables) As far as it running you need to just scale your injectors to whatever cc they are and you should be good to at least fire it up!

I finished my engine harness! This was a huge step i wanted to make. I knew nothing about wiring to start but with enough time research and money i made my dream a reality. I hit all the notes i wanted to: Shrink boots, DR-25 heat shrink, yellow labels, and nice to look at!
I started with the previously stated rope harness, laid out the wires on top and split them up, ran all the grounds and heatshrunk it. Then it was down to installing the connectors with all the wires in the correct position (hope you checked before using $70 in heatshrink), and adding pins and plugs. Does that sound easy? Well it wasn’t but it sure was fun from plan to execution, it was a cool task that keeps you busy!

That looks good Tazz!

I have some anxiety about the wiring on my Europa TCST project as I have never done it and it is coming up soon!

Create a plan and you basically follow your own instructions. It's honestly pretty fun.

I added controls to the center stack, including kill switch and a haltech CAN keypad. The key pad is absolutely sweet! With 4 wires i could control anything on the car. Ive chosen 13-15 inputs so far but i see it as a chance to expand a bit.

I really like the way that key pad looks, easy to see and read and the big buttons are usable with gloves on - very cool!

So that's part of the overall Haltech/canbus installation?
