im fixing to but a 360 into my 91 dakota. it is currently an automatic trans with and overdrive. i want to change it into 5 speed. i can get a 5 speed off a 87 4 cly but i do not if the bellhousing will if it. the 360 is a late 70's modle if that matter. could someone help me out please ?
No, the 4-cyl bellhousing won't work with a V8. You'll need something for either the 3.9 V6 or a 318/360.
The earlier V6 5-speeds aren't as strong as the later ones. You'll need to look for a '95-96 Dakota or Ram for a donor for the NV3500 5-speed.

But what?
I think there's more to it than that. The bellhousing is only the beginning. 4 cylinders usually have a different size input shafts than V8's, so I don't think the trans will go in the 360. Will the 4 cylinder trans hold up to the V8 torque? I'm thinking issue there also. The carbed late 70's motor into a FI truck shouldn't be too difficult but might cause issues with lights on the dash and emissions. Don't mean to discourage you but the right equipment will make things easier and last longer. I'm sure others will chime in with more specifics.
edit:
See I told someone would. While I was writing this, in fact.
thankyou all for the input
i done some reading on the NV3500 5-speed and for what i can tell that it has some issue when u start put some power though it. im hoping to get 300+hp at the tires. do u think this will hold up or do i need to looking into getting some mods for it.
