Saw it stashed in the corner of the local P&P. It looks new. They said I can have it for $400. So what modern motor did ford make that is factory turbo? (it had EFI and many sensors) The turbo had ford cast into the housing. They did not know much about it and I think they want it out of there office (where it is stashed behind some tires)
I know it is very little to go in but anyone have any idea as to what it may be? Ohya it apeared to be a FWD motor.

2.3 Liter Lima from the late 80s? T-bird, Xr4ti, Mustang (I think the mustang came with efi after while, right?)
The 2.3 liter turbo went in the T-Bird, Cougar and Mustang. A later turbo engine went in the newest Capri (?).

I was thinking about the capri, but would it have been a ford turbo? There was a '86-ish escort with the CVH and a turbo from the factory; that would be a rare bird here in the states.
The turbo Probe engine still said mazda on it, right?
Is it new new or 80's unused?
FWD turbo Fords? There was a mid '80s Escort with a turbo CVH motor, while as Ross pointed out, the Capri and Probe would not have the Ford badge on the turbo. (They would have a Ford logo on the valve cover, at least for the Probe, though.)
Only turbo-4 Fords I can think of stateside in the last 30 years are the turbo 2.3L from the SVO/Turbocoupe/XR4Ti/etc, the Mazda engine used in the 1st-gen Probe, and the Ecoboost-4 that's in the Interceptor Explorers.
Not that it helps this search, but you can get a turbo 4 in an Explorer and Edge right now. I'm pretty sure this isn't one of those.
Could be, but I'd be surprised.
The 87-88 Turbo COupe 2.3's would have IHI on the turbo. The older ones and SVO Mustang ones would say Garrett, but I can't remember if they'd have Ford as well. In any case, it's an "old" looking motor, so I doubt that's it.

Did it have one single cam wheel on it?
Didn't the first-generation Ford Probe have an optional turbo motor? Or was that actually a Mazda motor?
EDIT: N/M, someone already answered my question.
The Probe motor did not say Mazda on it in any sort of big letters or logo. It also used an IHI turbo.
I learned a little bit more today as I was at the junk yard. It is a european market ford turbo diesel. I was told it was in the focus and in some jags. It was purchased from a company that was using it to charge the batteries on a hybrid bus. The company made 40 of them and had a couple motors left over. Some how they ended up with one. It is a 0 mile motor. I was told you have to get the ECU and the harness from ford and that it is really available.
So can MS run a turbo diesel?
I am having really strange thoughts as to what I could put this in.
Ohya it is a standard. the clutch and FW are in the motor.
I got photos today. I will post them up later.

Approximately how old?
If you decide you are not interested, I am.
OOOHHH! I would put it in a mid 90's Ranger. I would love a more modern turbo diesel mid sized pick up. If you dont want it I do.

It looks not more than a year or two. I got photos of the ID tag. I will post up later when I get the photos off my cell phone.

It would be cool if you can, but.... the odds if it being capable of driving the injectors is just a little better than it being able to drive the injection pump.
Diesel injection is quite a bit more than gas di. And I'm pretty sure there are no aftermarket EFI that can do a gas DI.
If you can find the computer, and like diesels, go for it.
If the injectors are electric, then it's no big deal to fab capable add-on driver circuitry.
But the control algorithms will be far different than a gas setup.
That said, I'd be amazed if there's not an active diesel MS group that will help you learn how to do what's needed.
But unless you want to run MS because of the technical and intellectual challenge, overall, the cheapest easiest route will be to find and use the stock components.
They do have salvage yards 'over there'.

I bet that is the same engine that ford threw into the Ranger in Europe. And I, like porksboy, would love a diesel ranger
I will take mine in "sportside" in yellow, please

The board is acting weird and I can't PM you, dean1484, but I am serious. If you decide to pass, let me know.
Thanks!
Turbo Diesel Ford 4 cyl? I WANT IT! The promise of a 40 mpg small truck is dancing through my head.
Ok Here we go. Not the best but like I said Pix. On another note I dont know if the $400 price is still good. The first guy I spoke to did not know much. The second time I was there I spoke with the owner. We did not talk price. Anyway Pix
It is amazing what you find when you start looking in the corners of a Junk Yard
On the ECU side, if you can find who the original buyer was- I'm sure they had to use some stand alone ECU's that will work really well- maybe they have a part you can find a source for.
