I am pumped - I bought a Mazda 808 which is the piston powered equivalent of a Rx-3. Its got oh so 70s strips and slot mag wheels on skinny tires. Needs a little motor and brake work but all the chrome is there, body is decent and interior is fantastic. Getting it home tonight to dig in. Plan is to get it roadworthy then I dunno from there. Here are some shots of it from a few months back.

i'd lose the rocker stripes and flow the bodyside stripes up to parallel the blacked-out hood section, as if a boss mustang and yenko camaro did the nasty.

I love it so much already. There is a little rocker rust but not too bad at all. Trunk and floors are super solid and interior looks like new. Even the roof is in good shape.

I love the 70's econo boxes. I never should have passed on the Plymouth Arrow's I could have had for the right price.

Nice score!

Which motor is in that? The 1.6?

I'm starting to get some horrible ideas.

Miata drivetrain?

F2T/FE3 + B2200 trans?

Turbo2?

Were you actually looking for one of those or did you just stumble upon it?

Nice! I love 70's miniature muscle cars!

It begs for a Weber'd 1.6...

Yes 1.6L four banger. Looked like an aluminum head - can't remember. Its the TC engine I believe - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_C_engine

Yes in Lethbridge.

I'd love to do a Miata engine and gearbox swap but they are mighty expensive here in western Canada. The usual Rx-3 conversion is possible if I come across a decent Rx-7 donor. The B2200 donor idea would be decent for a low buck, stock looking conversion.

The second is what i was thinking...

I've been looking for some vintage japanese steel, and a donor to put my motor in.

This could kill two birds with one stone.

Love it. I actually want one of these more than an RX-3. I would do a late model MX-5 transplant.

Miata powertrain?

Why not a whole subframe job? End with a Miata coupe with a cool body.

i'm constantly blown away with all the rather odd/rare things you keep bringing home that consistently look to be in amazingly good condition.

Not just cheap but extremely potent. I don't wanna get Mr. Celica going on this (lol, j/k) but an F2T can make some extreme power on the stock internals. If you did a little digging, you might find that this is one of your better options if you want power and reliability.

I'll bet that's a live rear axle, which is going to make swapping in a full Miata subframe set a little more complex. But I'd drop in a Miata 1.6, simply because it looks vintage and it is a sweet little engine. I don't think a big turbo monster engine would really suit that car.

I learned to drive stick in a 1980 626. I suspect there's quite a bit in common under the skin. It was a really fun little thing, you can still feel its DNA in the Miata.

Its a live axle with leaf springs at the rear. I believe brakes and such are in common with the later rwd 323.
