did anyone else check out the new racing series that was in this issues from the guys who do the chump car stuff. big rigs back in action and beater rigs at that. this looks like it is going to be very cool to say the least. just had to check out the site a little while ago and sent a email about it......
I saw it, not going to work for them... ChumpCar is going to lose money on this.
It looks great, but seriously... It's not going to work for a number of reasons..

I looked at too, I think its missing a lot of things. Like where do you practice? and only so few races per year?
also, notice how dead the forum is.. they introduced this on the Chumpcar forum months ago and there was some chatter there about it... then nothing... so unless they hook up with some people that already do these kinds of events like they did with the ice racing, it's not going anywhere..
Yeah, the maintenance costs on a semi are about 10 times what they are for a car and most home car builders can't move the parts around their shop nevermind lift a rear axle into the truck.
Then there is the tow rig.
Yeah logistically I don't think many people would be able to support running/transporting such a vehicle.
That and as fun as it sounds I'm fairly certain there is no way I could ever convince my wife that it is a good idea (it is hard enough just to get her to "tolerate" Lemons).
I don't think this series has a high degree of overlap with us regular, gentrified sports car folks. Doesn't necessarily mean it won't work -- I have zero visibility into the world of big trucks.
Maybe they can sucessfully market it to a group of dudes that I don't know exist?

Wait, I thought the racecar IS the tow rig?
Sounds like fun, but who knows big rigs enough to build on up?

this kind of racing was around in the late 70's and early 80's- it made an appearance in the first (and only...) Smokey and the Bandit movie. they also do it over in Europe to this day...

Awesome. That's nearly as good as the Smart car I sportted in England with a 4x6 utility trailer on the back.
The photo's don't matter. Yes, you can tow a huge truck with a smaller truck..
I would be surprised if CHUMPTRUCK or whatever the hell it is called. Has one entry for their first event.
