I have one. It works well, but blades are expensive.
true, but so worth it. brought mine home and my dad looked at it and said "that wont cut steel it looks like a wood blade"
then i cut a piece of 2x4 .125 framerail perfectly with a square held against the saw table.
A Porta-band (the best portable metal cutting tool ever) will cut anything up to and including rail road track. A 4 1/2 grinder with a cut off wheel, skil saw with abrasion blade, and a air grinder round out the weapons of choice. It depends on what I'm cutting and how precise it needs to be.

A lot of people would think that you knowing it will cut a railroad rail is a bit... odd. Like the kind of thing that maybe one learns from some act that predates a huge train wreck. But... I just assume you were building a truck. I used one as a bumper for a Blazer once. I had to cut it with an oxy torch.
I ran a backhoe for a few years a long time ago. We came across an old track about four feet down that was in the way. We cut it out with a porta-band. The rail was dated on the end 1917. I cut the last foot with the date off and it is the counterweight for my lathe motor. So yes it really will cut rail.
Keep an eye out at pawn shops. I paid less than $50 for mine.

Used plasma torch was the best tool purchase I have ever made, bar none. Well worth even the $ it cost to upgrade to a OneTorch for it.
I lubs my plasma cutter. Use a piece of angle etc for a guide and it's surprisingly accurate.
