The Detroit auto show (NAIAS) is coming soon. Anyone want to be a big spender and go to the black tie charity night? It's Friday Jan 17, $350 ($340 is tax deductible).

I've done that several times when I was still working. It is a tremendous way to see the show. Walking around and drinking while you look at the cars, usually up closer than on the public show days is nicer.
Yeah, I'm sure it will much less crowded than on public days and have nice "scenery" beyond the cars...
The "scenery" usually comes with their dates, and my date didn't appreciate me looking at the scenery either.
I've always said someday I'll go to the Charity Preview. Years ago I was able to go during the press days when they were still setting up the exhibits. That was pretty cool.
If you want access to the cars the press day and supplier day are great, just no scenery. The black tie night is kind of cool to go to, just for an elegant change. No mullet, Jeff.
Somebody will need to tell me if it's worth going this year. The last 3-4 times I've gone, I've been quite unimpressed.
one of my acquaintances says he and his wife have simply gotten all dressed up, walked in like they belonged there, and enjoyed the show without actually buying tickets.
I did it last year for free through IBM, had a big dinner at the model t factory and everything, very swanky. Great way to see the show, but I prefer going during the week, at night. Least amount of people that way. We wouldve done the charity show again this year, but our pheasant hunt is the 17, 18, and 19.

it's charitable to him and his wife.
