12 laps in, this is entertaining.
35 laps in. No commercials? Wow! I'm going to have to go buy some Mother's products if they're making this possible.

That’s for damn sure. Great race, especially the tension at the end.
And killer job by ESPN not mucking up the broadcast and not putting in a single commercial. That was awesome.
Great race. Kudos to ESPN for deciding to not run commercials. Hope that continues for the rest of the year.
Gasly had a hell of a race! Was hoping Bottas would give Vettel a little more pressure, but it was exciting, none the less. I kinda feel sorry for Hamilton as technical stuff seems to hurt him more than anything else. Because he was really coming on at the end.

I've been trying to do the math that got buggered when Kimi broke his crew guys leg. I think Ferrari intended to bring Seb in for another set of tires, which would have put him out behind Lewis. I wonder if Seb would have had the pace to make the 23 seconds to catch Bottas on his one stopper. No way to know now, but fun to imagine.

It's been just a matter of time before Honda gets it's act together. They are a company rich in racing heritage so the only surprise has been how long it has taken.
Oh, let's wait and see how many laps they survive...
Both survived and Gasly bagged a fourth. Not too shabby compared to the last couple of years.

Bloody fantastic, I would say. I hope they can keep it up.
Great race with a little bit of everything going on. And thanks to Mother's products for the commercial free sponsorship.

What's really interesting is that Seb was able to run a one stop race with two relatively soft tires- which I'm sure nobody expected. Not even him. Not sure if Hamilton had better communication would have even helped. Pretty great drive by Vettel.
Wow, great race. Awesome result for Gasley as well. Not that even though he held it together for 4th, his best sectpor times only add up to 13th fastest overall.
Bottas is a really good driver, but not a great. I bet if Max, Danny Ric, Hamilton or Vettel had been in his position they'd have made a far more convincing shot of passing Vettel on the last couple of laps.
I think the odds of Danny replacing either Kimi or Bottas next year are increasing. What a sucky start to the season for them. MAx is undoubtedly a future WDC, but man he has to learn to bide his time a bit better. It was a racing incident with Hamilton, but a racing incident that didn't need to happen on lap two.
Kimi's pit stop and the poor mechanic. Wow, I hear he's got a broken tibia and fibula, that's nasty, he's gonna be on a lot of drugs for a long time and it's going to be months before he can put any weight on that. I've said for years that I hate the F1 pit stop system and prefer the Indy car system. I think the air jacks are way way safer than two guys front and rear with over center jacks and three people per corner is asking for an accident like this. There is always a guy standing in front of each wheel, and as the new wheel goes on (s)he stands back which didn't happen this time. One guy per wheel means there's never someone in front of a wheel. Seems much safer to me.
While every one is making jokes about the Honda finishing 4th, their best result since Silverstone 08 (nearly 10 years ago!!) and that Gasly finished ahead of both McLarens, let's not forget that both McLarens have finished in the points at both races without loosing an engine and Alonso is currently 4th in the driver standings.
50K Euro fine ($61.5K USD) fine for Ferrari's unsafe release, that's much higher than the normal unsafe release fine as it should be due to the severity of the accident.
Tweeting (edit, Instagraming) from his hospital bed. Glad he's in good spirits.
F1 fines are weird. 50k Euros is a rounding error to an F1 team. Stick and ball sports routinely fine individual players more than that. IMO, they should take constructor points away if they want to get their attention.
Great race. In my view MB dropped the ball again. They have watched Ferrari try to run tires past the recommended laps in the past three seasons. This was no surprise. Bravo Vettel. Well managed.
Bottas should have started his run to catch him about 5 laps earlier. Maybe he just had a harder time in the traffic. IDK.
Hamilton and his three car pass was great! The whole radio trouble thing was interesting. To finish on the podium was his best hope but if a safety car came out that would have been a wild end to things.
HONDA!!! Toro Rosso had a good but lucky race. Two faster cars retired. And the rest behind were embroiled in too many battles for anyone to breakout and catch him. China will likely be sobering.
Alonso is dragging that McLaren around still.
The Williams is very very bad this year. I hope next year they get it right.
I thought Magnesson was a missed opportunity for McLaren a few years back. Now I am thinking he might be a bit abbrasive and thus doesn't fit well into many teams.
Ferrari....... Ouch. That was a tense bit of time. The pit crew looked very worried.
You know, nobody has mentioned Sauber- who finished in the points with Ericsson! And it was not a fluke with LeClerc a strong 12th. Given that they were expected to be last, this is pretty good! Better as a team than Force India and Williams.
As for FI- I think the issues with the owners are starting to catch up to the team- which is kind of sad- they were progressing so well.
A fun race to watch for sure. Interesting to think how things would've played out differently if Kimi's pit stop had not gone horribly wrong. I doubt Seb would've attempted to one stop if Kimi had stayed in the race. Bottas did not impress me. He really should've been able to take the win I think. Hamilton would've if he and Bottas switched positions with 10 laps to go.
Hamilton cracks me up with his attitude. The man can drive, but I love to root against him because of his attitude.
How can we make sure ESPN gets feedback that commercial free was the way to go? That made the race so much better than Australia to watch. If I have to go buy some car wax that I never use, so be it.
Regarding the Max and Hammy incident.....why at the top level of pro racing is it ok to run the guy on the outside off the track.
Everyone does it and its deemed a racing incident, how can it be anything other than unsportsmanlike conduct and a penalty?.
I think it just sets the wrong example for young future racers in a all forms of racing.
Great race thruout the field otherwise:)

You don't understand, Max is simply sporty and is the future of F1. He could be setting fire to people in the paddock with a flamethrower and he'd just get a little tsk tsk from Charlie Whiting. I'm glad to see that he's the one that paid the price this time and not his victim. If this was NASCAR, Hamilton and Vettel would take him out behind the transporter for a little education.
As a Red Bull fan, not my favorite first five laps in recent history.
But yeah, very exciting race, the triple pass was a good reminder than under all the douchebaggery, Hammy is a hell of a driver, nice to see him having to deal with non-lapped traffic for a change.
Not sure if docking constructor's points for pit incidents is the right call, though tiny fines (someone commenting over on Jalopnik said that the fine was equivalent to $24 for someone making 100k a year) aren't going to garner any changes. Grid penalty for the following race?

I don't think Max in that circumstance would be able to complete clean pass. Bottas could have pushed the envelope but rather play it safe and bring the car home. I am not sure I buy into Daniel Ric being faster then Bottas, they both struggle in qualifying. I don't see Daniel beating Hamilton at all. Other then a bad start, Kimi really did no wrong, Ferrari should hang onto him, I don't think he should be responsible for bad luck. If Kimi does leave Williams should pay up and take him.
Question is how would Max deal with Gasly if daniel signs elsewhere. I think Gasly is defiantly driving better then the car.
NO fine, no docking of constructors points and no grid penalties. Just make them only have two guys on the left rear for all pitstops for a couple races.
