That is why I choose the GTV6.

...and why I harbor a secret yearning for something rare and Italian and pininfarina or bertone. Some day. And it won't be a daily driver (I'm no masochist).

Yup, I owned an Alfetta for 7 years and it was constant heartbreak....

Are you sure? I mean, sure it was full song? I've been passed by Alfas on a race track and there is no comparison between the Alfa engine sound and the BMW engine sound. The Alfa is amazingly beautiful. I'll be honest and say I've never heard an E36 M3 on track. But man those Alfas sound good.

E36 M3 is a much better car but I would love a GTV6 as well!

GTV6. Easy. Don't care if the BMW is faster and more reliable.

Op votes Alfa as well

12-8 Alfa wins by emotion but not by performance.

No experience with the Alfa but I have a e36 M3 & don't have a strong desire for anything else. Best car I've ever owned.

Depends on what your objectives are.

I have a '98 M3 that's nearly unusable on the street. It gets driven to track days at Summit and the odd VIR event where I cane it mercilessly session after session after session, then drive it home with the (working) AC on. It's neutral, sticks well, is fun to drive, is fast enough, and it has character.

It also is very reliable, simple to work on, and parts are available all over. Aftermarket support is huge, and there's whole racing classes built around it.

Would the GTV6 work for this purpose, bearing in mind I also maintain a race car, an old car and a fleet of street cars? Nope. Very cool, but too needy.

If I wanted one slightly older very cool car and track time wasn't on the agenda, I'd give the Alfa a hard look.

I agree, the M3 is the best car for the money by far. I don't know how people are voting for a gtv-6. I can't even think of the last time I saw one on the road etc...

I vote E36 M3. The Alfa engine sounds great, but the ass end is... kinda.. not. good.
