Maybe I shouldn't admit this, but while there are design elements that could certainly stand to be improved, I don't actually hate the proportions and overall shape for the intended purpose. My biggest problem with it is that, much like the new logo text, the rendering looks like something from the mind of a teenager just learning to use SketchUp.

Yeah, I see where they are going with it.

In my eyes, it isn't as succesful as the Hyundai 74 concept, but a very similar idea. Modernized, low poly version.

I'm not buying that it's an E type throwback. I doubt the person responsible is even aware of that era of Jaguar. It's got a long hood and a low greenhouse because that's been the language of speed forever. This is more of a Dick Tracy homage than anything Jaguar related.

That little badge behind the front wheels is something I seem to recall on mid-ought Jags. That's about as far back as they're looking, if at all.

Actual leaked sketches of their new concept cars:

Nicely shaped cars (with box flares!), they have some Cybertruck styling going on with the smooth low-poly look.

Edit: Whoops I see Tony beat me to it.

Pretty sure I watched Batman chase that in an animated show 30 years ago.

In reply to DasAuto :

With a few retro styling cues it would fit right in to Batman: TAS, but without them it looks a bit more like the (non-flying) cars in Batman Beyond, which was made mostly by the same people. For reference, Bruce Wayne's personal flying car from Batman Beyond:

Holy smokes this thread got a lot of attention. Maybe Jag's rebranding will work after all...

It's as if somebody flashed a picture of a Rolls Royce Spectre in front of  some designers for 3 seconds, and then told them to recreate it out of plywood, but the only tool they could use was a table saw.

Honestly, I don't hate it, which probably means it's not weird enough to go viral.

But yeah, big oof.

It just seems very weird that they would put out a video that looks like something an intern would have thrown together in 3d Studio circa 1995.

"Jaguar Type 00 is a non production vehicle," from the bottom of the site. I wonder how far removed it is, or whether it's strictly a concept/feeler/buzz-maker.

I don't hate it for the same reason I don't hate the cybertruck.

It's different.

You know what this is.

In a sea of amorphous blobs and jellybean SUVs, cars like this stand out. Call it ugly all you want, at least they're trying something. The lineage to the e-type is definitely there, if an e-type was run through a Nintendo. Beyond that ???? I'm curious where this ends up.

You know what?  I'm standing with you on this one.  I don't hate either one, either.

Then there's this take:

It’s meant to represent their bold new vision for an upscale EV future. But if this is the future, it looks like Jaguar ran out of inspiration somewhere between the Dove soap aisle and the garden section of a hardware store. In their quest to “Copy Nothing,” they seem to have copied everything mundane.

It does have a distinct vaporwave vibe to it, but I don't mind that.  I would stop well short of calling it "mundane".

The Pepto Pink color has to go, or else Lady Penelope is going to be first in line to order one:

Unpopular opinion:

I really think the new jaGuar logo is lovely and balanced as a form. In a year people won't "read" it. It will become a symbol. Just like ESPn, 7-ELEVEn and nicKelodeon.

From a purely design form I think I can understand the the goal of rounded, elegant forms. No pointy "A" shapes, no descender of the "g".

A lot of non-car folks seen cars as fashion and lifestyle accessories. Folks that buy performance cars for different reasons than we as us car folks do. I'm clearly not the demographic for the next jaGuar. As a designer, I can understand the marketing....not predicting if it'll be a success or failure, but I get it.

+1. The cybertruck's not pretty but I don't hate it. It's not exactly ugly and it's different. This new Jag looks a lot nicer than the cybertruck, not a timeless beauty but not bad at all and not another anonymous jellybean.

That take has distinct 'food critic' vibes to it... Not in the "I am extremely knowledgeable and experienced" way, but in the "If my hyperbole is unintelligible enough people might think I'm more sophisticated than them, rather than actually just being full of E36 M3" way.

The good:

It's a two door coupe.

The overall proportions are good.

The bad:

This rendering looks like a screen shot from an indy video game with a low polygon count and no budget to license real world cars.

There are a few interior pictures out there and the seats look very uncomfortable.

Other suggestion: Instead of "Copy Nothing," maybe their new slogan should be "This time, we didn't get the electronics from Lucas."

It's very Sci-Fi gangster and I am sure it will appeal to as many people as the Cyber Truck does.

We'll see if it actually sells.

Top one is a rehash of Aston Martin and fisker. The bottom one is at least a LITTLE more original. Truth be told I still prefer the unadulterated one.
