Uh oh I did it. I traded my reliable GM parts bin for an Italian turbocharged convertible.

at most 20% Italian turbocharged convertible if we are being honest here.

You have no idea. I was battling 2 CEL's for the past few months and finally got it sorted enough to sell. They didn't seem to notice the lowering springs or Bilstein shocks in the same way I didn't notice the full stainless Goodwin Racing System One quad tip exhaust. Which sounds AMAZING by the way!

Are there hardtops for these?  In a completely unrelated question, has anyone rallycrossed one yet?

Not any OE ones. For rallycross you'd need a MX5 RF. We briefly considered it decided it was way too wasteful. No idea if anyone else has done it yet.

Congrats!

FWIW, I like the ND styling but I love the 124.  I would also stare out the window at it.  You need to take some non-night-time flip-phone pics for us!

Yes, there are hardtops. Fiat Europe sells a carbon fiber one on the 124 GT special edition. There might be an aftermarket version too.

I'm not sure about rallycross, but Fiat / Mopar have done tarmac rally with one. With a custom hardtop with roof scoop.

I'll get more pics later, but here's it on the lot yesterday.

I am very, very open-minded to rallycrossing it. Already hunting down an Abarth LSD.

SCCA RallyCross requires OE hard tops, not aftermarket, unless a roll cage is installed.  Either way a hardtop is mandatory.

I am 99% certain that the 124 rally cars were rear wheel drive.

Darn, didn't know about the hardtop requirement. That kinda sucks.

It’s a retro styled turbo MX5, win win!

I would try to find another open diff an get yourself a Proper LSD installed into it.

the LSD on the ND is a cone type and can wear out over time. Even if you don't go full race clutch type. I would personally love to toss an aftermarket torsen into a ND/Fiata because they're basically good forever and don't have consumable parts like a clutch type.

Bummer. You're right. Just RWD. Still cool though.

It's for the best. I'm a huge fan of rallycross, but it's not something to do with a brand new daily driver that you care about unless you're truly insane and enjoy the one nice thing you own always being coated inside and out in dirt in a way that you can't fully clean out no matter how hard you try.

though tbh im pretty sure there have been significantly more roll overs in SCCA Autocross than in rallycross.

This is true. I bought an Outback from cousin that he used for rallycross. Was forever cleaning dirt out of random places in that car.

Fiberglass hardtops don't do anything in a rollover.

I dunno about rallycross but in other classes the "OEM hardtop only" rule is supposed to be for cost containment reasons, to prevent "must have" 5-figure carbon bodywork.

It's not for cost containment, it's for best practices, so someone doesn't show up with painted Reynolds Wrap calling it a hardtop.

I have seen someone ziptie a coffee can lid to a hood hinge and call it the hood...

What's the reasoning behind requiring a hard top in the first place?
