Sounds great!
By over prepping of course I mean adding a lift, lockers and extra horsepower before you even maxed out your driving skills or even have the terrain to use any of it.
One of my most memorable off road adventures I ever had was in my stock '87 K5 Blazer with nothing but 31" Super Swampers.
A new state highway was being clear cut by enormous equipment that absolutely destroyed the terrain. We're talking downed trees, uprooted trees, boulders and ravines like a 100 bunker busters were dropped there.
We picked our way through terrain that was all but impossible to walk in with nothing but experienced skill and a truck that was designed to be driven on dirt roads at most.
No doubt the Tracker will be a fun DD if not a very fun off roader. (Having owned your Trackers twin and three Samurai's)
This damn thing is not letting me get any work done. Reading and learning too much.
Any opinions on General Grabber AT 2's? They seem like decent enough tires from what I've read so far, they come in the stock 205/75r15 size or a LT235/75r15 which would bring it up to just shy of a 29" tire vs the stock 27. Yeah I know the LT tire will have a more squared off shoulder and stiffer sidewall. I deal with mostly sand and dirt. A LITTLE mud, maybe soon here some snow if dad moves up north, or the occasional vist to SWMBO family in WV.
Fine tire, you'll be able to drop the pressures in the high single digits off road!
I drove my Samurai's with no more than 12psi year round. 4-6 psi off road. Granted they were Super Swamper TSL's on a very light vehicle.

Yes, on 15x8 American Racing steel wheels. Never lost a bead and those tires were stuck between rocks, logs, you name it.
Plus reseating is as easy as some ether and a match. (On a friends Jeep).
Anyone know if the 1.6 8v motors are interference motors? I am pretty sure I've got a rod knocking, any thoughts on popping in a replacement bearing to give me more time till I need an engine rebuild?
Supposedly the 1.6 in the Trackers etc. are NON interference while the car versions are interference.

^^^^^^ what he said. 8 valve only are non interference. Once a rod starts knocking its Not long before it comes thru the side of the block. Had a friend use a piece of leather for a main bearing shimDrove it for almost a year that way.
I don't think either are interference.

I can only say that I've read about three rebuilds where the crank was rotated by hand and there was contact between internal parts on the car versions.
I have no proof!
So I think the real question is what motor bolts to the stock transmission?
You're not gonna be happy till I start swapping this thing are you?

What car motor are you talking about? The 1.6 8V was never available in a car, and the 16V motors are not interference.
FYI, if you plan on driving it much, start looking for a spare computer right now.

Swift? I never mentioned anything about valve count, just the 1.6L displacement.
Swift was never available in the states with a 1.6, and the Canadian market 1.6 16V Swift was not interference.
I wouldn't hesitate to get the grabbers. I have them in 205/75/15 on my lifted impreza obs. They performed great on high speed washboard, crawling through babyhead rocks and floating over sand in baja. I have not had them in mud yet, but Im sure they would do fine. Also have 10k highway miles on them with minimal wear. They replaced a set of Yokohama geolandars that were inspiring offroad.
This may be a question I need to shoot to Zoomby. But, if I'm reading this correctly:

I can swap parts to/from different Suzuki engines. Is the EXHAUST MANIFOLD bolt pattern the same between heads? IE a 1.3 head on a 1.6 motor is possible, but finding a turbo manifold for a 1.6 tracker is proving to be neigh impossible. But they're everywhere for the 1.3's. I know the position is differnt, and I would have to fab a downpipe, but this http://bbs.zuwharrie.com/content?topic=102514.0 looks like fun. Saving myself headaches and time with a manifold to start with would be kinda nice.
Yes.
1.3 8V (up to 95) and 1.6 8V have the same head, with the exception being that the 1.6 has slightly bigger valves, and a little more cam. The 16V motors are different. If you find one and aren't sure, send me the link and I'll verify. One of the guys on Teamswift built a 16V Sidekick turbo, and routinely destroyed WRX's with it.
Don't look here whatever you do.

WTF???? That's like telling someone not to push the red button.
Would like to know more about the cams available for these things. Also wanna know more about that 16v build. This one is destined for DD duty, but the idea of building another for rallyX is definitely on the radar.
Wait, I can use the swift gt engine I have that has a rod sticking out the side plus a sidekick engine to build a dohc 1.6L? Off to hunt engines.....
Yes you can.
So how did a 1.3 DOHC throw a rod? No oil, poor maintenance or miss a shift and hit 15000 RPM?
No idea, but it must be relatively common since I have 3 of them that way, the swift gt one and two Sammy ones. In fact, I've never had a g13 without a rod sticking out the side, but the 8v g16 in my dads tracker is great.
Best part for me though is that the Tracker came with a 3-speed automatic, a gm 3l30e, which us Opel guys know better as a Fiat Trimatic or th180. That means for an Opel or chevette the g16 is almost a bolt in, particularly with an automatic.
