I have had this idea in my head for quite some time. I actually got really close to building it at one. We had the car in our shop ready to go but life got in the way and it did not happen. Here are some photos of the car we had and were planning to modify for track day fun.

This is what I started with the first time around but we had to sell it due to loosing the garage.

The plan is to take an older pro four chassis. Square up the suspension. Add a 4age and a t5 and go auto crossing and or HPDE. If I got really motivated I could actually make it street legal and have a really scary street toy as well.

Two square it up involves taking the shims out of the left front and changing an axle and axle tube on the 9 inch quick change. For the street add fender flairs and cycle fenders and just leave it alown and keep it as a track duty only.

I have also mulled over using Miata power and trans. I have been quietly searching for a candidate car as they are now older and out of date. The newer cars have an off center chase. The older ones are square so converting them to left and right turning duties is rather simple.

Ohya and We got this car complete with a multitude of spares for less than 4K. I can only assume that they are now going for less if I can find one as there really is no use / class for them anymore and they are long since been made uncompetitive in the Pro Four class.

Another motor that would be fun but I really know nothing about would be the 1.8 V6

Anyway I just wanted to share what has been rolling around in the block above my shoulders.

Very cool. I would suggest a zetec to be different. How much does it weigh?

Sorry, I saw that old roundy car and immediately thought "killer small block". If it doesn't have sprint car headers and injector stacks by the time you are done I will be disappointed.

The problem with v eight power is size. This is a pro four not a featherlight mod car. It is like a 3/4 scale featerrlight mod. Part of the reason you can get them so cheep and frankly a v eight would be starry. Think less than 1000 lbs wet.

Hmm.. no V8, but probably should be domestic in that chassis. Quad4.. with boost? Ala Offy clone.

How about a turbocharged Hyabusa engine? Light weight, lots of power, can be mated to a transmission from what I've heard. Of course it'd be a little more expensive than a junkyard 4 banger. Just a light weight thought...

From Brap Brap Brap to a high pitched wail in a microsecond. WOW, that was cool!

I had not even considered the spinning triangles. 20b would be really fun and it would keep the cg alot lower than any four I can think of.

I actually pondered the motor from a V Max for a while. I am sure there are other bike motors that would be better. I think sequential shifting would be fun as well. But then you run in to the old problem of engineering reverse.

My dream motor would be an old ofinhouser from a miget

Another pipe dream would be one of the new ford ecoboost four cylinders.

I am sure there are a plethora of possibility from Honda as well. How about there lump from an S2000?

That's odd, because my buddy Erik is building the exact vehicle you described.

4G63 + T5 + Pro Four chassis

His bellhousing is on its way as we speak.

A 13b should be plenty in that. Sounds like an awesome idea to me!

13B! 13B!

When it's not enough power, add the turbo.

In reply to dean1484:

Dean, If you're looking for the offy look you might be better off going quad4 since it looks REALLY close to the offy once you pull the top cover off. Too bad GM had to have a seperate head and block. ;)

The quad4 has a ton of resemblance to the offenhauser midget motors, hence my suggestion. I'd then run it through a set of strongbergs, or slap on a turbo charger with a log manifold, and run a CIS variant. The original offys were either carbed, or hilborn injection.
