Most people know the car from the movie "Back to the Future". That would be why it garners attention. I don't see where a car being a "Movie Star" makes it remarkable. If it wasn't for "Back to the Future", the DMC would barely garner a blip on the automotive history radar.
E30 M3, Porsche 959, F40, not to mention all of the more common stuff. Those cars plus the music and I too think the 80's has been th bomb so far. ( Though I graduated in 89 so I may be a little biased).
That is a sweet group of cars you have there.
Needs more Alfa, and a touch of Merkur wouldn't hurt, either. Otherwise, nice collection.
I think the only thing unremarkable about the DMC is it's power in stock form. The design is quintessential 80's goodness.
Music? Joy Division, Police, Psychedelic Furs (before voice lessons), Squeeze, New Order, The Clash, REM, English Beat, The Specials, The Cars,Talking Heads, The Cure, Big Country, U2, Throwing Muses, Pixies, etc., etc., etc. Yup. Nothing much here.

Porsche 959. Ferrari F40. Oh yeah. Two very different approaches to the same nirvana, and both from a time when I was young enough to believe the dream.
My little piece O' eighties.

Beautiful. Wow.
This is a killer thread, BTW.
Though much dirtier and crappier, here's my 80's euro collection(that's at my house right now. I've also got an '81 Scirocco, an '86 GTI 8v, and an '87 GTI 16v).
And just for fun, here's some '66 and '71 content.

Oh! Oh! I had one of those:
Rude and crude, but fast for it's day and extremely fun.
The 80s
BMW M1, M3, M5 and M6... Triumph TR7 & TR8, Fieros, MR2s, Lotus Esprits, RX7s, 280Zs... Panteras & 911s... Fiat X 1/9 and 124.

I don't know about dirtier, I'm rather good at hiding dirt with the camera.
Nice lineup though, thought I had the only DMC on here. I guess I don't even have the only DMC-and-944, heh. These things must attract each other.
I can't believe no one's called me out on the amount of photochopping I did on those pics.

Dnor, that Datsun is dead sexy. Love the digi-dash. Does it speak to you?

"RIGHT DOOR IS OPEN", "LEFT DOOR IS OPEN", "PARKING BRAKE IS ON", "FUEL LEVEL IS LOW" and "LIGHTS ARE ON".
You have to satisfy a couple conditions before she pipes up with a warning. There's a neat article at Jalopnik about how it's actually a, "miniaturized, shock-resistant phonograph, using a 3" white plastic record cut with six parallel grooves..."

Pretty cool and the fact that it still works is just nuts.

You should watch this and think very hard about the word stallion.
I forgot about that whole japanese L and R thing. Would you like me to cook you some lice for dinner?

Maybe im weird but when i think of the 80s i think more of the 288 GTO than the f40. They were both made in the 80s but i think the 288 GTO is more representative the style that was more common in the 80s.. both the f40 and 959 for me are stuck in the weird 'pre-90s' spot where if you didnt know any better you could think they were 1990 models instead of 1987s.. this is a common thing for me.. i find myself liking the cars designed in the early 80s more than the cars released in the late 80s, from a styling point of view at least.

I remember seeing my first StarQuest while skipping school one day. It was red and everything about it looked perfect. The stance, shape and proportion of the wheels/tires just worked very well.
I've never driven one though but CL does tempt me every now and then.
BTW, I graduated in 88 and the decade did rule.
EDIT: stoopid hot link didn't work.

I graduated in '90. The cars from that era just push all the right buttons for me. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that these were the cars that I drooled over and read about (but couldn't afford) in high-school. Most of them are downright affordable now. Heck, I have the window sticker from my '85 Z and it's over $21K MSRP. That is a lot of 1985 dollars.
What happen to the reasonably small, lightish, RWD, hatch? Hmph!
There's a local couple with a DeLorean they've owned since new. That's right, one-owner DMC goodness. I've done some PC work for them on a couple occasions. They're in their 70's and I've dropped some hints about being interested in it, should they decide to sell it(not that I have the $$ right now). She seemed somewhat interested.
Unfortunately, I met her son. He has a StarQuest he's owned since new, as well as a GLHT. I have a hunch he's gonna' want that DMC...
Or my newest acqusition from the 80's... a GTV6 3.0 conversion...
Not one mention of the SVO - can't get any more 80's than that if you're a Mustang fan!

I think thats a fitting addition to the lineup above. I think the SVO mustang has the most appeal to me of any mustang other than a new v6. Ok maybe im weird but those are the only two i want to own.
