Anyone here put 2.5 heads on an ej22?

I've not done it but hear it makes a higher compression EJ22 that will make 170+whp.  So sayeth the steets.

There doesn't seem to be anything to it as everything is apparently compatible.  The recommendations I saw where to use the heads head gaskets not block.

In reply to nocones :

The biggest curiosity is that the 2.2 is sohc and the 2.5 is dohc

Think you've got it backwards, the combo for high compression and high torque is traditionally an EJ25 shortblock with the SOHC EJ22 heads. "frankenmotor" is the term on various Subaru forums.

Cometic makes (used to make?) a specific head gasket for this combination.

People would put the ej25 dohc heads on the ej22 block to drop compression for low budget diy turbo applications. I think it drops it to 8:1 CR or something. This was pretty uncommon, but it's been done.

For NA engines, it's ej22 heads on the early ej25 block. Makes for a high compression build.  Supposedly very torquey. 1995 ej22 heads are preferred for this as they have dual port exhausts and will bolt up to existing ej25 dohc manifolds.

I've codrove a car with an STI block, wrx heads and 14:1 compression aftermarket pistons with boost on top running e85. Fun setup.
