What is mega squirt?

I see this phrase here quite a bit and was curious so I looked it up and found that it is somekind of engine management system.

Is this what i will need to be able to put an engine from a Mercedes W129 chassis into my W202 chassis,OR IS THERE MORE TO IT THAN THAT? (I hate cap lock).

anything info to enlighten me would be great.

It's stand alone, programmable engine management. It can control both fuel and spark. Could it be used for an engine swap? Sure, but you don't need it. You could swap in the factory EFI computer.

Megasquirt lets you do all kinds of modifications to an engine that the stock computer wouldn't work with. Or lets you do your own set up with power or economy in mind. I'll ultimately end up with one if only to get rid of the stupid flapper door AFM on my Celica. Megasquirt uses uses a MAP.

What is Megasquirt? What you make it!

For me is has been a whole lot of fun that has taught me alot about engine management. (And I thought I know alot when I started)

You will make new friends and learn new things. Even if you dont use it on your current project it is well worth getting involved with.

It makes Jeeps and Turbos good friends and stops crying babies! (the last part may or may not be true)

Black magic.

Megasquirt will help put an end to war and poverty, will align the planets and bring them into universal harmony, and will allow meaningful contact with all forms of life, from extra terrestrials to common household pets.. Until then, it's excellent for turbocharging Fiats!

If it doesn't have a turbo and you want to add one? Megasquirt. If it came out of something Japanese and is going into something not Japanese, Megasquirt.

If you're more familiar with software terminology, Megasquirt is an open-source ECU.

Since its open source and theres a large group of people all over the world using it, there is almost unlimited possibilities. I saw a guy using MS for something other than engine control... cant remember what it was and where I saw it...on this forum maybe?

From solder yourself to fully integrated PnP kits (dep on vendor/application). Your level of involvement is a choice.. at least now it is!

I helped a friend with his turbo'd stang running an ACCEL Gen7 box...... UGH. He has been taking it to a guy who tunes with SCT almost exclusively..... There were many problems with his fuel table and now that I know what the dumb numbers mean on the berkeleying thing..... I have it running much better. Went from a popping, farting 11.6 to a smooth 10.55 pass with just a few keystrokes.

Now if he would just put in a non Bob Costas cam in it...... he could be running 9.5's.

Its pretty amazing, i have only used it on my friends NA build, but there are add ons for nitrous, turbos, multiple tunes from power, economy, valet modes... you can control meth or H20 injection, stor maps for different octanes, its ALOT cheaper, but you are also using open source so that map that one guy with the one car in that one town SWEARS is amazing, may blow your car up and your out on your own with the peices, that being said the comunity is 100% trying to be helpful even if things dont go right the first time.... very rewarding experience... long time to learn it all and install it all though...
