Want to live out those Initial D fantasies? Look no further than Duncan Imports and Classic Cars. They claim to be the biggest importer and seller of Japanese market cars in the U.S., and their website doesn't disappoint. Curiously enough, the car that caught our eye today was one of the few non-Japanese market cars: this super clean 1984 Toyota …

Hrm, that gauge cluster is startlingly similar to the one on my GVR4. I wonder if Mitsu and Toyota sourced them from the same supplier.

When the hell did a corolla become more than the original msrp?
HACHI ROKUUUUUUU
Did I spell that correctly?
When I was parting out my kevlar corolla to fund a scratchbuilt project a stock SR5 hatch with auto was for sale cheap nearby....it took much resistance to not buy it and put my turbo engine/W55 trans/2 way lsd/front and rear coilover setup in it for a pretty fun street car.

I think it is spelled with fewer 'U's.
too nice, Id be afraid to hoon it. And, hooning is mandatory.

Hachigo, not hachiroku.
Of course, Itsuki would tell you that the 85 is the thinking man's Trueno.

I'm gonna start hoarding more ae101s. If the Toyota market is like this, the last of the 4ag capable corollas are sure to skyrocket
I'm gonna be a negative nancy but it doesn't seem to be a twin-cam. In Ireland any time you hear "twin-cam" it's this model Toyota. And the website is slightly annoying with all the 'private owner not for sale' cars. I'll go to Pinterest for my car porn. :what the:
On a final note I will say the above car makes this one below look like too pricey.

Well, you can. You just have to pass on the inside. Using the gutter to drift, err, ditch-hook.

The SR5 was the SOHC version. For some reason, all US market rear drive 8th generation Corollas had AE86 on the VIN, both SR5 and GT-S (DOHC).
And I still kick myself for not buying that SR5 for $100, because I didn't think a 302 would fit under the hood. It ran and everything, just needed a clutch. Past Me is quite the dumbass sometimes.

The whole ditch hook thing has a certain bit of truth. I've used it in winter conditions to get traction when the cloverleaf is super icy, and the only spot not packed is the shoulder. Drop a couple wheels off the inside and go.
The nice thing about the road construction on 315S in Columbus is that the lanes are so narrow and close to the grass that you can ditch hook in sections. I make a point of going through there at [REDACTED]mph and hooking just because I can.

When they became collectible, which was back just around the same time you lost track of the current market.

I'm holding my breathe!
They're already stupid popular amongst the Toyota crowd here in florida. I have to imagine it's going to continue.
Other than initialD which I haven't watched. What's so great about these?
In reply to yupididit:
Lightweight, responsive, balanced handling with great feedback. A true driver's car. Rear wheel drive. Easy for the noob to push at 7/10ths or 8/10ths, but rewarding for the old master to try and squeeze 10.5/10ths out of. A great platform for modifications with a huge aftermarket. Just old enough to have some "modern classic" vintage charm and quirkiness, but just new enough to be way more user-friendly than most old sports cars. But other than that, they are just some overpriced old Japanese econo-car that nobody should care about.
