My 'roommate' actually spends most of his time at his house on that island so after six years it could be an excuse to finally go spend a weekend just not this weekend. And that he has a new boat but I'm scared of water so. I wouldn't want to waste the sellers time though as I do not have $4500.

They are more or less a Group 4 Escort. Simple four link axle, simple strut front suspension, lightweight, well-balanced, driver is sitting in a good place relative to the car's CG so the inner-ear feedback is excellent.
There's also a lot of interesting parallels between the Escort's 1600cc BDA engine and the 4A-GE engine, which this car is not equipped with.
No matter what the drift/Initial D/Gran Turismo tax does to AE86 pricing, they probably will never touch the cost of entry for an Escort, so there's that as well.
I'm gonna have to try one of these out! I never paid attention to them before.

Stock they are slow and pretty boring I'd imagine,bought mine dead stock and in great condition for $200.Never drove it on the street once,straight into trailer queen mode and basic mods that morphed a very long ways from basic mods over the course of 9 yrs.

I've had two, started stock. Stock was fun. Even for an sr5. The thing I regretted most was altering my geometry. Because then, the steering wouldn't automatically recenter.
This meant I couldn't do "no handed" drifting. My little brother thought my name was Bunta after I showed him I could drift with no hands.
I love my ae86. But its supercharged and lowered on giant slicks so not quite a stock one

If you install a spacer between the upright and the steering arm, you will raise the car's roll center. These spacers are called "turn in spacers" in the RX-7 world, don't know what Toyota people call them.
If the spacer reclocks the steering arm, that will alter Ackerman. If the spacer is offset fore-aft, it will alter trail. Both of these can affect return to center.
Interestingly, the common types of these spacers reclock/are offset by design, as they are legal in various forms of SCCA motorsport only if they are a permanent part of the upright, meaning the attaching bolts can't just pass through, there must be two sepaate sets of fasteners.

They are called RCA's. Or "roll center adjusters" and this was about ten years ago when I was a "scrub" radius... (get it!) I slammed that car and ran tokico blues and that's it. Drifted great, but required Popeye's Arms to correct that sideways fun. T3 sells them for about 50$... I just didn't have the knowledge I have now.

Yes RCA or NCRCA's(offset for additional camber),I made my own.Combined with an upwards relocated inner control arm pivot and a tie rod spacer worked just fine despite my very much lowered ride height.
No bump steer,no weirdness with steering effort or feel even with additional castor and no power steering.

My older friend got one of these when we were in high school. First time I ever went 80mph.

Right or wrong what I've always done to settle in on damper settings is start soft and drive the car paying attention to the number of oscillations after a bump or dip.Stiffen until its just one cycle at each end.
That's as stiff as you need to go,from there its usually soften or stiffen the rear depending on chassis balance for that surface/tire/temperature etc.
For me the jury is out on the effectiveness of traction brackets,I honestly couldn't tell on the good AE86 and on the ice racer AE86 I ran them until the diff blew up...swapped in a complete housing in a hurry to finish the day minus the brackets and couldn't tell then either.
I'd do a 3.5 link as discussed before spending money on the brackets.

Hmmmm, $8900..... for an SR5..... there were a few threads on the ORIGINAL Club4AG forums where I was saying these cars would be worth some $$. Can't tell you how many people thought I was fantasizing....
If that is "worth" $8900... does that make my custom AE71 worth more than $10 large???

Probably not... modified usually makes a car worth less unless there is a certain name attached to the car.
And cars are stock only once.
I wonder how much that zero mile, still has plastic on the seats and carpet GT-S will go for. The one in Scandinavia somewhere that the guy put in his basement when he bought it.
