Must be a really slow news day. That car looked pretty trashed.

I never really understood the whole fascination with the "barn Find" I mean people know the car exists. It's not like the car was unearthed after sitting for 1000 years. To bring a car like that back is pretty major dollars.

I mean technically, You could consider my barracuda a "barn Find" Not registered in 25 years, Been living under covers and such. Only difference is I kept it inside and under covers and the paint is beautiful on it and I just need to do a mechanical restoration to fix all the leaks.

In a fastback absolutely, can check the red book but not a lot of 390's out there left un-found. Not super crazy money but mustangs are finalizing coming up in price much to my chagrin as they are excellent first classic cars.

McQueen's Mustang in Bullitt was a 390 I believe.

I owned a '67 Cougar version of that car, with a 390 and 4-speed. It's not a high winding motor, but the torque...oh the torque. I owned it back to back with a '70 Boss 302 and it was easily the faster of the two.

I would take a '67 Mustang 390 any day. They've gotten so expensive though its difficult for me to justify it.

My father had a '67? with the 390.

We had a lot of fun with it Auto-Xing and running time trials at Nelsons Ledges.

A funny story about the torque of the engine: My father brought it out to the gas station where I was working one evening. One of my co-workers asked if he could drive it and my father said OK. Kenny took it for a little drive around the station and when he came back Dad asked him how he liked the 4-speed. Kenny replied "4-speed! I thought it was a 3 speed. I must have started out in 2nd."

That's not a barn find. That's just an old car that someone gave up on and stored improperly.

In reply to Hal:

That's a '68.

My dad had a fairlane with the 390 and 4 speed. Some funny stories involving my mother taking it to the grocery store and other errands.

I remember back in the early 80s. I went to Carlisle with a buddy and his dad. I bought a 1980 MGB for $7K. His dad bought a decent 390 powered Mustang fastback for $4500. It needed floors but not much else. Can't remember if it was 67-68?? Anyway I feel stupid now. That MGB is probably worth 7K on a good day now, and that Mustang is worth many times that.

I almost didn't waste my time looking because of your comment.

I couldn't disagree more.

It is most certainly not trashed. It's extremely straight, no evidence of damage (including under the hood), complete, unmolested, and seemingly rust free.

The dirt can be removed in an hour.

The pictures aren't great, but there is enough to tell that is a good find, with great restoration potential.

That's about a $60K car once it's restored, and parts are readily available.

But yeah, I don't understand the appeal of barns either.

It looks like from the camera angle but it looks like the lower edge of the doors are rotted out and usually if those are gone so are the cowls. Tough to say without seeing it up close.

If bought right, yes you could make some money on it. You'll probably have about 800 or so hours in it though to get it to 60K. Between the parts and labor, you would almost have to get it for free to make any $$ on it. I'd rather flip the driving 67 S code I looked at last week vs this one.

That's the same reason there isn't a Charger in my garage that my neighbor has. I can buy it right but even then, with the amount to get it to a good selling condition, I'm almost 2X the price I'd get for the car because it's not a rare R/T model.
