Accidentally drove to Nemo SD. since tourist season has not started, the roads in the Black Hills are deserted. Spent the day killing a tank of gas and half the thread on my tires.
Beware of deer in the eve...there are thousands of the things!
Now I gotta drive home by Wednesday. That sucks.

80 mph SD speedlimit Badlands Devils Tower Crazy horse Rushmore Trout fishing Beer.
Where are the obligatory photos of your car in the rock tunnel on 87?
Oh, and cool accidental destination. It's on my planned route to Moab for an accidental bike trip next fall.

Incorrect. It's an absolutely beautiful part of the country.

Also Deadwood. My aunt and uncle live in Spearfish, I've been up into the Black Hills a couple of times. It's spectacular.
Should have taken the detour through the badlands too. And let me know you were coming through the eastern half of the state so I could meet you somewhere and buy you dinner.

Which car do i take? Miata or Cherokee?
And back home in London again. I don't recommend doing this non-stop solo unless you are certifiable. I think I qualified about mid-way through the Chicago nuthouse. Can anyone think f a reason why the whole city should not be shoved into the lake and a reasonable route constructed to join Milwaukee and Indiana?

Drove not to far from your place. Have you live in the state long? Father's family is from Milbank where the family used to run a mercantile trading company.

Funny you should ask: I was thinking of you and your fellow Michiganers as I drove up hwy 69 to Port Huron; How do you people live with those roads?!
This is not the car to be driving on that busted concrete road after 19 hours in the saddle; actually makes your vision go blurry from vibration and exhaustion.
I am of the opinion that the NA Miata made a better GT machine in the seat/suspension comfort sense. (Many 1000 mile days in that car).
As far as being a car to cover the miles, regardless of the situation, it is always a pleasure to be driving no matter what you are doing. That is its super-power.
In reply to NOHOME:
If it's no better than a Miata I'll stick to the MINI then. My back isn't good, but I've done the 1100 mile trip from the Challenge to Dexter in a day for the last two years. No back issues at the end of the day.
