I am lazy and I will forget to do it. . . While I like to care for my older pieces and take pride in maintaining them I also know me and the more complicated I make something to use the less likely I am to use it. I typically will clean my rifles in batches a couple times a year and as such I avoid the corrosive ammo.
I don't do mag dumps with these types of rifles so getting the more expensive ammo is not a big deal. If I put 100 round through one of these rifles in a year I am shooting it a lot.
I tend to pull them out to share with people. When ever I take my old mil serp stuff to the range I get a crowd. It is fun to see "kids" get all excited about a Modi or a K31.
My mosen for some reason gets lots of attention. I think it is because it is so loud. The blast wave off it will wake you up.
Since it's impossible to search this thread. What do yall suggest for 2011/1911DS style pistols?
I'm in FL for training and had the opportunity to shoot the Live Free Armory Apollo11 compact. I loved it! To my surprise they're under $1000 but the reviews online seem to be all over the place, which seems to be the case for a lot of 2011 style pistols. I'm not really interested in spending more than $2000 for a Bul or Staccato even though I've liked those too.

I picked up a Tisas 9DS Carry last year and it's been pretty impressive, especially at the price. I didn't really like the profile of the stock trigger so I replaced it with a Red Dirt trigger, and the stock grip is somewhat lacking in texture, so I had a local guy stipple it. Other than, I just added a red dot. It's functioned 100% with the ammo I've run through it, though I've only put ~ 300rnds through it. Magazines seem to be very good, and I haven't had any issues with them being finicky, which seems to be common with some Staccato mags. For an inexpensive entry into 2011s, I think it's a great value. The trigger isn't as good as a Staccato out of the box, but I've got about 1/3 the price of a Staccato invested at this point, including the red dot.

I'll agree with Rodan, Tisas B9R is most excellent for the price... for under $600 it's insane how good it is. I actually picked up a full size / 5" and in process of getting it how I want it, halfway there right now. Trigger was okay stock but a bit too heavy and the grip is a bit lacking in stick. That said, I love how it shoots: about 2 1/2" group at 20 yards offhand and POA running 124gr Blazer.
So far I've changed out the grip module to a Warwick Tactical reworked/machined MJD carbon/kevlar composite unit that was on clearance and added the required MJD mag release. Grip level is insane on that module, love it! Also put in a Red Dirt Staccato fitment flat trigger in it and tuned the sear spring to get an incredible trigger pull on it. Adjusted the pre and post travel to get it tight yet fully reliable and now it has a way lighter but not too light pull that is only 0.5mm pre-travel when cocked until you hit the wall. Uncocked there is 1mm total free travel, and when not depressing the grip safety there is absolutely no movement of the trigger at all - rock solid and unmoveable whether uncocked, half-cocked, or fully cocked. Also have a pair of Springfield Prodigy magazines which work great just like the factory mags.
Also have changed to full length Wilson Combat guide rod setup with flat recoil spring (have the 13 & 15lb ones), EGW stainless pin/internal parts set, 19lb hammer spring, and an extended slide release (TriARC). Running an RMR footprint optic on it currently (Meprolight MPO-FR) with an RMSc to RMR pattern adapter plate (from Lakeline LLC). Incoming I have a stainless EGW single sided HD thumb safety, Dawson Precision stainless low-profile mag release button, and the Wilson Combat barrel bushing compensator. I really want the Underworld Arms rail mounted compensator for it (design similar to the HK USP Match comps) and was excited when they released the Tisas Gen 1 version a few days ago - but only for the Commander length (4.25") versions. So Wilson Combat barrel bushing compensator it will be until they release a 5" full length version.

I will say the new Gen 2 B9Rs are a nice upgrade with the MAC (Military Armament Corporation) slide, longer frame dust cover, and bushingless bull barrel setup. The MAC 9 DS-D Comp pistol might be a better upgrade over a Tisas labeled gun though for the features it has - fits RMR optics right out the box, has extended slide release & extended mag release, larger thumb safety, full slide length dust cover, magwell, and of course a chunk port compensator designed into barrel & slide. MAC is the Acura to Tisas being the Honda... and for not much more money. The bang for the buck champ and most everyone says better than a Prodigy hands down.

I decided to get the Tisas B9R DS because I wanted to get into a 2011 and learn the inner workings/tuning of a 2011/1911 - not really a defensive pistol for me, more a tinker/modding/exploring things range gun to scratch that itch. It's actually been nice so far getting some experience working on the 2011, is a really nice design to work with and WAY better grip ergonomics over the 1911 - which is the main reason I don't like nor want a 1911. Really have grown fond of the 2011 design the very short time I've had the Tisas so far, like how it's more hand fitting of parts over just drop-in and go. By the time I'm finally done with the Tisas B9R DS, the barrel, slide, firing pin, and frame will be the only remaining Tisas parts.
So with that background, when I first got it I research comps/hybrid brakes for bushing barreled 1911/2011's and once I discovered and researched the Underworld Arms compensators I knew that was what I wanted... specifically the Cerberus upper pieced comped unit. Like how it's not attached to the slide, can easily be added or removed from the frame, and is more effective than any bushing comp can ever be. Since it's unkown when/if they'll make the 5" version, for now I'll settle with the Wilson Combat bushing comp as it's probably the best/most effective bushing comp you can get.

Tisas and MAC shouldn't be too difficult to find. A "local" tactical shop in southern Utah that is more high end 2011 specialized had them in the showroom.
Something just did not feel right when it cycled. So in stead of pulling the trigger I took a look.

Have you tried a DWX? I have the full size. It shoots like a pistol costing twice as much. They make a compact also that I have shot and it is also a very nice piece.
These are pricy but I have no regrets getting mine. At over 2k new I can see why it is not something most people get but it shoots as good or better than my friends Athena. I got mine in a package deal with a Benelli M2 3 gun. At the time I wanted the Benelli and was less excited about the DWX but what a pleasant surprise I got when I shot it. I use it in steel challenge sometimes when I want to shoot irons. I have about 4-5 cheat code guns and this is one of them.

Kinda surprised it cycled, maybe it was just enough to blow back?
